**Ok so this is my first fanfic… NO HATE PLEASE! I'm doing the best I can… (shout out to Hannah for editing for me!) I chose the names Clara and Amy because of Clara Barton and Amelia Earhart so that they would fit in with the other Gladers, NOT because these are two of the Doctors companions! Anyway… hope you like the story! Write a review!**
Chapter One
Amelia and Clara were relaxing on the beach of Assateague Island on a hot day in July. They were best friends and on vacation together with their families. Clara was a perky sixteen-year- old with long blonde curly hair, bluish greenish eyes, and skin that was just getting tan from the hot sun. She loved singing (although she wasn't very good at it) and had a tendency to be overly dramatic. Amelia (Amy) was only a few months younger than Clara and was much taller. She had blonde/brunette hair that fell to her waist, grayish blue eyes magnified by glasses, and skin that was a little pink. (She didn't tan, she burned). She had a more calm spirit, although she could freak out about certain things, and books were her life.
They were taking turns reading the Maze Runner books out loud to each other (as this was their favorite book to fangirl about) and they were nearing page 250 of the Death Cure. Clara suddenly stopped reading.
"I can't do this anymore! Newt…" she drew a deep shaky breath. "Amy- I can't! I JUST CAN'T"
"Wow. Washed up at sixteen. So sad." Amy chuckled. Clara glared at the girl next to her.
"Be quiet Amy."
"At least MY favorite character didn't die." Amy stated smugly. She was met with a slap on her shoulder right where the sunburn was worst.
"OWWWWW! Why would you do that!?"
"Because you are a horrible person and you deserved it. Besides, wasn't Newt your SECOND favorite character?" Clara asked
Amy sighed, "Yeah."
Clara looked back at the books pages, "I just wish we could just jump in the book and save him, like in Dora the Explorer."
She looked up from the book only to find that Amy was twenty feet up the beach and walking fast. "Oh no… not AGAIN?!" Clara jumped up and brushed the sand off her shorts, then jogged after her friend. She soon caught up with her. Amy was looking around frantically.
"Amelia! What are you-"
"Shush! I'm tryna listen!" Amy walked a few steps more up the beach with her hand behind her ear, as if straining to catch the sound of something. Clara shook her head.
"Listen for what, dummy?"
"SHUSH YOUR MOUTH CHILD! Yeesh…" Amy suddenly took off towards the woods. Clara struggled to keep up with her. Amy had no concept of walking around low hanging tree branches- she would just duck under them. However, Clara couldn't see ahead of Amy and so she ended up getting hit in the face with a tree branch a couple times. Amy stopped without warning and Clara ran into her, nearly knocking both of them over.
"What. Are. You. Doing."
She poked her head over Amy's shoulder to see why they had stopped. Her jaw dropped. It was a large blue Police box. More specifically, it was a Tardis. The Doctors Tardis. Right in front of them. Clara clapped her hand over her mouth to keep from squealing out loud. The all-to-familiar squeak of the door was like music to their ears. Out stepped the Tenth doctor with Rose in tow. "Ahh… I always loved the sea. Well, I still do!"
"Doctor…"Rose said unsurely, "I'm not sure if you noticed, but there are two girls standing there watching us."
"What? Oh, HELLO!" he grinned brightly. "I'm the doctor and this is my friend-"
"Rose Tyler and this is the Tardis which stands for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space." Amy finished before the doctor. Clara next to her was in the process of hyperventilating.
"Eyahhhh… how did you know that exactly?" Amy and Clara exchanged glances. "Uhh… long story… we'll save you the details…" Amy said.
Clara started to whisper in Amy's ear, "Maybe he can help with our problem."
"You mean your obsession with pandas?"
"NO THE OTHER ONE LIKE A CERTAIN PERSON THAT'S GOING TO DIE IN 4 PAGES!"
The two girls grinned.
"Actually we were wondering if you could help us." The Doctor nodded. "I am pretty good at that." Rose rolled her eyes.
"There's a certain…someone… that we need to save," Clara continued. "There is a slight catch though…" her voice trailed off.
"Well wha' is it then?" Rose asked
"Well…" the girls looked at each other sheepishly. "The person we wanna save is actually…" Amy licked her lips nervously. If they couldn't convince the Doctor to take them to the maze, Newt would be gone forever. "… He's a book character."
"We were thinking, though, that out of all the billions of universes out there, at least SOME of them have to be books!" Clara defended her friend vehemently.
"Who do ya wanna save and what book is he from?" the Doctor asked. The girls remained silent for a moment and then Clara spoke up.
"His name is Newt and he's from the book the Maze Runner. And he will die a horrific death if we don't save him and that would be heartbreaking because he is British and beautiful and amazing and-"
"The point is," Amy interrupted, "We want to save him… but we need your help."
Both Clara and Amy stared up hopefully at the Doctor, who started back thoughtfully. "…you know that it'll be dangerous." The girls squealed. "So we can go?!"
"Weeeeell… if you're really willing to do that… then yes!"
"Thank you so much, Doctor!" Amy exclaimed. Clara looked like heaven had opened unto her.
"Well I think that we should all go inside the Tardis and figure out a plan," Rose suggested. The Doctor grinned mischievously.
"Well yes, I think that's a great idea!" So in they walked. Once inside, Clara and Amy stared open-mouthed at the interior. The doctor winked at Rose and she giggled. "What's so funny?" Clara asked, knowing full well why they were laughing.
"Well… it's just…" Rose smothered a giggle. "What d'ya think of the Tardis?" Amy smiled brightly.
"Oh it's amazing! Actually… I was wondering if we could go check out the swimming pool." Now it was Clara's turn to giggle at Rose's face.
"How did you…"
"Long story." Was all that the girls said. The doctor shook his head. "Doesn't matter. Rose, why don't you take these two troublemakers and find them some proper clothes for running around in the maze."
"Right-o! Follow me, girls!" Rose skipped down a hallway to a staircase. Clara and Amy followed in disbelief. "Wow," was all Amy could say. "Clara-"
"Yeah I know!"
"NO BUT THIS IS THE TARDIS! AND THAT'S THE DOCTOR! AND ROSE!I just can't believe that it's actually real…" she pinched her arm. Clara laughed at her. "What d'ya think you're laughing at?!" Amy said, pretending to be offended.
"Oh nothing…" Clara said airily. Amy punched her on the shoulder. "OWW why did you DO that?!" Clara exclaimed.
"Oh, I don't know…" Amy said with a smirk
"Well I know one thing for sure now…"
"Whassat?"
"That this IS real…" she rubbed her shoulder and pretended to look hurt. Amy burst into laughter and Clara joined in. Rose poked her head around the corner of the stairs. "Are you two coming or what?"
"Oh yes!"
"Count me in!" The girls eagerly followed her up a short flight of stairs into the Doctors attic closet. "Well, start looking!" Rose encouraged. Before even fifteen minutes were up, both girls had found outfits. Amy was wearing a black long sleeve exercise shirt along with a white sweatshirt that had the sleeves torn off, just a little above the elbow. She also had on some faded, ripped skinny jeans and black converse. Clara was wearing an oversized blue flannel shirt with a white tank top and black leggings. She was wearing converse as well, but hers were a light grey. She also found some fake wide rimmed glasses.
"Does this make me look like a hipster?" She asked, turning to Amy. Amy rolled her eyes
"Makes you look like a nerd."
"Gee thanks." Clara put them in her pocket
They each had grabbed a backpack. They followed Rose back to the control room, where they found the doctor with his nose in a book. "Ah, there you are! I just finished cooking up a serum that will make you drowsy so the ride up in the box won't be as terrifying. Also we're just about to land in new new York. Technically it's called new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new York, but new new York is faster." With that, he flipped some switches, instructed Clara to push a large orange button and for Amy to pull a lever, and they landed. "Allons-y!" He shouted with glee as they ran out of the Tardis.
"That means Lets Go in French." Clara told Rose wisely. Rose looked sideways at her and just nodded.
Less than an hour later, they were sitting in the waiting room, waiting to talk with the head nurse. The Doctor was busy filling out paperwork, with Rose helping him occasionally. Amy was reading a magazine she had picked up off the table, while Clara stared open mouthed at the nurses hurrying along on their duties.
"Clara shut your mouth you look like an idiot!" Amy whispered. Clara shut her mouth with a clack. "Sorry they just look so… different in real life!" She whispered back.
"Yeah well that doesn't give you the right to stare!" Amy retorted
"…Oh look, here's the head nurse!" Clara said, somewhat guiltily.
"I hear that you would like to purchase a dose of the cure for…" She looked down at her clipboard for a moment. "…For the Flare."
"Yep that's right!" The doctor grinned and the girls nodded. Amy was squeezing Clara's hand so hard she let out a yelp.
"SHUSH CHILD!" Amy whispered intensely. Clara was about to protest, but seeing that it would be pointless, she kept her mouth shut.
"Right this way, please." With that, the nurse turned briskly on her heel/paw and walked away. The four time travelers jumped up and followed her. She led them down a maze (wink wink) of corridors and finally to the medicine vault. She pulled a hidden keyboard out of the wall and pressed a few keys, then pushed it back into the wall. A small canister came zipping down a chute, and the nurse grabbed it. She opened it and took out a small vial, then sent the tube back up the chute.
"This," she said kindly, "Is the cure to the flare. That will be 200 units, please." The Doctor handed her his card to scan. Amy whispered to Rose,
"That's so cheap!" Rose nodded solemnly.
"So many people are dying without this… too bad we can't bring more." Clara said sadly.
Once they were back in the Tardis, the Doctor filled them in on the plan. He would land the Tardis inside the box as it was going up, drop the girls off, fast forward to about a month in the future and pick the girls up. The girls both nodded. Now that they were so close, they were getting nervous. The Doctor poured some of the sleepy serum stuff into two small cups, while Rose got them some water. Clara slipped the syringe containing the cure into her backpack. The Tardis's whooshing noises began, then died away. The clank of machinery could be heard outside.
"Well, this is it!" the Doctor said, "Drink up!" Amy and Clara exchanged glances.
"See ya on the other side, I guess." Said Amy. Clara smiled back nervously. They tipped back their heads and drank the serum in sync. Almost instantly they were half asleep. They barely made it out of the door into the shaking box.
"Doctor!" Rose said angrily, "How much sleeping medicine did you put in there, exactly?! Look at them!" Then her eye caught a glimpse of something else. "And Doctor! Teresa is on here- THIS IS THE WRONG TIME!"
"Oh whoops! Well they'll survive, I'm sure. Allons-y!" Clara and Amy both smiled drowsily before drifting off into a deep sleep.
