Katara opened her eyes to the sleeping face of the fire nation prince. She sat up, letting the warm blankets fall from her. Outside, it was still dark.
The waterbender stretched and slipped out of bed softly, as to not wake her suitor. She caught a glance of herself in the mirror and had to smile--her long hair, out of the braid she normally wore, tumbled down her back. She wore a simple white sleeping gown with straps.
She heard Zuko mutter in his sleep. "Wake up, Zu." She whispered.
She shivered. It was cold. She reached for her silk robe. It was a beige color. Originally, Katara had wanted it blue-as water.
But Zuko, ever the protagonist, insisted it be red- as fire.
However, the 'peasant' would not abandon her roots for- what she called- her "ex-rival's color".
So, with one of the two scowling and the other waiting in annoyance, they went with neutral with beige.
Katara walked over to her vanity, examining the various trinkets. One in particular had caught her eye. She had always continued to wear her mothers necklace, but now, it was carried around her neck with another peice of jewelry.
The necklace from Zuko.
It was a leather cord with an amber gem- made by the prince himself- in the shape of a raindrop.
"It describes us." He had whispered when he slipped it into her hand.
Katara looked outside to see the first signs of light coming up over the mountains. He'd be awake soon.
She walked over and leaned over him.
"Wake up, Zuzu." She teased.
She knew he hated that name. Apparently, it had been given to him by Azula when they were very young.
His eyes opened. He pulled her onto the bed beside him. "Lets not get up today."
Katara tried to pull away, but his strong arms held her wrists.
She sighed, content.
"Sounds good."
k, so i just had this idea and wanted to write it. hooray for zutara!
