Katara lay side by side with Aang in the grassy meadow. They had stopped in the woods to make camp, and Katara had stumbled on the small clearing by chance. She had immediately grabbed Aang by the arm and dragged him into the forest.

"Wow, this is amazing," he said delightedly, looking at the soft green grass and the trees all around them. He snaked his arms around her waist and dropped to the ground, bringing her with him.

Katara sighed with pleasure, savoring the feel of Aang's arm against hers, just breathing in the scents and smells of the beautiful day. As her eyes roamed upwards they snagged on a tiny, perfectly round apple hanging from the branch of a young apple tree.

As she lay there captivated by the small wonder, Aang spoke, "Do you want me to get that for you?" He had followed her gaze to the red fruit and was now looking at her with question in his eyes. He pushed himself up on one elbow and prepared to use airbending to sever the apples thin stem.

"No, don't take it," Katara blurted suddenly, pushing him back down, "it's still tiny, it deserves to live and grow. Who am I to take its life away?"

Aang turned completely over and stared into her eyes, completely captivated. He was amazed that this beautiful girl would be so considerate as to spare the life of an apple. Aang gave her a gentle kiss and let it be.

"Everyone deserves a chance at life, no matter how small they are."
