She turned around and took in the sight of her hometown one last time. Here she was born, here she grew up, here she made so much unforgettable memories. Was it right to leave everything behind? Her duties, her friends, her family, her… love? She was about to leave not only everything and everyone she cared about, but the one person she promised to stay by his side a long time ago. She was about to shatter her heart into pieces.

But it was already broken, so did it really matter? He broke it every night again and again. He might have changed in the past few years, but you can not erease what you were for far too long. At his still sleepless nights his demon infacted mind came back and took pleasure in hurting her not only physically, but above all emotionally.

She should have run at the first sign that she was heading down a dangerous road. Instead she gave in to her longing, knowing that this way would lead straight into disaster. And here she was: her body scarred almost as much as her soul, and her heart broken beyond repair. Still it held on to the hope that one day he would return the strong feelings it held for him and heal it instead of breaking it even more. But she knew it was too late, her heart was smashed into billions of tiny little pieces that no one could put together again. No one. Not even him.

But she knew a place where she would find someone who truly loved her. He would not be able to fix her heart either, but she believed that he could at least heal it a little bit. Hell, keeping it as it was now would be enough! As long as it would not be shattered any further, she would be okay.

She was afraid that if she stayed, the pieces of her heart would become tinier and tinier with every night, until it would be only a pile of dust blown away by the next desert storm. Although it was an opportunity to end her ongoing agony by becoming heartless, she was masochistic enough to keep her feelings for him like a treasure. And with them the hope her mind was telling her was senseless, for a monster would always be a monster no matter how much he changed. He might have become a gorgeous leader and a friendly person, and a loving little brother, but at night he showed his old cruel self, and as much as she longed for him to change completely, she knew that it was never going to happen. He would always stay like that, because the demon had been inside him for too long, creeping into his mind and causing the people to stay away from him, including his family. It had broken him. And now he had broken her.

Fair trade, she thought bitterly. Since the siblings had been put together in a team, she had tried to make them the family they had never been, to fix what they had done in the past, ignoring the fact that it was too late, that he was already scarred too much to allow such feelings in his life. And then there had happened a wonder. After he had fought someone who was a monster like him but dealt with it a different way, he had started to change. He had allowed feelings in his life, he had allowed them to become a family. She had been happy – until she had realized that his old self was not gone. It still had been there, hidden deep inside, only coming out at night. But when she had found out, it had been too late. She had already given in to her forbidden feelings and given herself to him willingly. And as much pain as he had caused her, he had gifted her the greatest pleasures, too.

She loved him, she could not deny it. In spite of everything, her feelings only had grown instead of gone. In spite of everything, she still loved him. And she knew she would ever do.

She turned around and continued her way, leaving everything behind. Leaving her love behind. Breaking her heart one last time.
