Hi gang! The terrible threesome is back. Rumours of our demise were greatly exaggerated...
E/O Challenge - use a day of the week (and one drabble also uses this week's word, double)
3 linked drabbles by amberdreams, dizzojay and edinaclouds, not necessarily in that order.
Hang 'em high
He sat precariously balanced, the spectral mare champing beneath his trembling thighs. His hands were tied behind his back, the rusting shackles cutting into bleeding wrists, the lack of circulation deadening his fingers.
He felt the noose, already too-tight around his sweat-drenched neck, dig deeper as he fought to urge to struggle; he knew it would be pointless – the ghostly posse had seen to that; had secured him to the withered hanging-tree with supernatural powers.
"Helluva way to spend a Saturday night," Dean thought as a long-dead lawman cracked his whip to send the frightened steed galloping into the night.

As the mare's translucent flanks slid out from beneath him, his weight dropped and the noose snatched tight around his neck biting into delicate flesh and slamming his airway shut.
Writhing like a fish on a hook, he yawned a silent cry, gaping in a desperate but vain attempt to breathe.
As his vision began to dim, he stilled. Through a fog of receding consciousness, he reflected that he could think of better ways to die than this; strung up six ways from Sunday in the middle of nowhere, but at least these spectral douchebags hadn't gotten hold of Sam.

He didn't hear the blast from the double barrelled shot-gun, nor Sam's anxious yell. He didn't feel the grip around his legs or the rope loosening from his throat. He didn't see the flames going up, or the dancing shadows cast as the last remnants of that vindictive old West posse screeched into oblivion.
Sam breathed into his lungs, dripped scalding tears onto his face, and Dean woke, finally, at the blow to his heart of Sam vowing he wouldn't live through another Trickster-like Tuesday.
"You know today is Wednesday, right?" he croaked, and Sam pretended not to smile.
"Jerk."
