On The Battlefield

"I told you I'm okay," Kai said as his fifteen year-old teammate Hillary stood next to him with the teams' First-Aid kit in her hands.

"Kai Hiwatari, you must think I'm an idiot," she said, kneeling down on one knee and opening the kit.

"No comment," he thought. Immediately a cold and Lysoled wet wipe was put to the sixteen year-old's cheeks, which he did not like but let her do anyway. He couldn't and wouldn't beat her in an argument such as this, so why even bother trying.

"I still don't understand why, after all this time. Why do you wear that stuff? It's a pain to get off," she said.

After removing the blue face paint the brunette took off the bandages, revealing the numerous scars and wounds made by his matches with Brooklyn. His right eye was especially bad. Sorrowful ruby met stoic amethyst. Oh how he lost himself in those skies.

"It protects my light-sensitive eyes and helps me see better in the bright lights of the stadiums and the sun," Kai said after a moment. "It also helps me focus better," he added. She began to clean his wounds. Yeah, it stung but he didn't mind, her Jasmine scent kept his mind off of the burning.

"Oh, so that's why," she answered. "I figured, but I never knew for sure."

"Hn."

A bit of time past while she worked, and in that time the two-tone bluenette could hear the cheering from the crowd that had gathered near and in the massive crater. He knew who they were cheering for and why they were cheering.

"Tachibana,"

"Yes?" she said, nearing the end of her mending. She was on his right arm now, which was riddled with deep cuts and bruises.

"Tyson, how is he?"

"He's wounded too, but well. He won and he's on his feet at least. He looks about as bad as you, but he won't let me touch him," Kai chuckled at that. He understood, remembering her bedside manner last year when they were trapped on the island by Dr. B and his goons. He swears to this day that they had way more than just stealing their Bit-Beasts up their sleeves but no one believes him, except Hilary.

"At the end of it all she means well. I guess that's why I'm letting her touch me now," he thought.

"Hmph, I'll corner and hold him down for you," She giggled.

He looked at her, fresh bandages covering him. Despite only being able to see out of one eye he still loved to look at her when she smiled or laughed. He did every chance he got. In truth, he loved seeing that any woman was happy, but he loved seeing her smile the most. In the end he wasn't sure why, but he was sure the answer would reveal itself in due time.

"I'm holding you to that," she said, pulling tightly on the last wrap. It hurt but he didn't show it, Kai just smirked at her.

"Of course."
