Thiswas inspired by Lyn and Hector's conversation in Light. I thought it was very sweet, and then I wondered what it'd be like if Lyn and Eliwood had a similar event. So this came about. Not really a romance, though it's pretty emotional and tender...I suppose you can see it however you wish. I view Lyn and Eliwood as being friends, but this is one of those "open to interpretation" fics.
(Fire Emblem isn't mine, I'm just borrowing the characters for awhile.)

"Lyndis..."
"Eliwood?" Lyn turned around. "What is it?"
"...We've made it this far supporting each other, haven't we?" Eliwood asked.
"Of course we have," Lyn said.
"Well...right now, I..." Eliwood swallowed hard. Trying to be strong and putting up a brave face after Ninian's death was taking its toll on him...even after the anguish had faded, it still hurt to remember.
"Lyndis, I need that support more than anything right now," he whispered.
"Eliwood?" Lyn's expression grew concerned. "You're not scared, are you?"
"Scared? Me?"
"Look at you. You hands are trembling." Lyn wrapped her arms around him. "Eliwood.
it's okay to be scared right now," she said gently. "This is the final battle...who knows what's going to happen to us when we approach the gate? He's waiting for us behind those doors...of course you're going to be a little nervous."
"This isn't about Nergal, Lyndis," Eliwood said, resting his head on her shoulder. "This is about my father. About Ninian. I failed them both...and if something goes wrong and we lose, we'll be failing everyone else who's suffered because of this war." His voice broke. "If that happened...I'd never forgive myself!"
"Eliwood!" Lyn drew him closer. "That's not going to happen, though. We're not going to fail them, because we're not going to lose," she said.
"...You're right." Eliwood sighed. "Forgive me. I don't mean to be a coward right now."
"You're not a coward," Lyn said. "It's okay to be a little afraid right now...even I was feeling a bit nervous before."
"You were?" Eliwood blinked. "Then how did you overcome it?"
"I reminded myself over and over again that worrying isn't going to solve anything. We're not going to lose because in addition to our fighting strength, we've got spirit. Our determination alone will crush Nergal and put an end to this war once and for all," Lyn said. "We are strong, Eliwood. Everything is going to be just fine."
"...Yeah..." Eliwood nodded. "We have to win...my mother is waiting for my return, and I won't let her down."
"And I'll be back at my grandfather's side as soon as I can," Lyn added. Eliwood smiled and blinked away the tears that had been threatening to fall.
"Thank you, Lyndis. I feel so much better now," he said.
"You're my dear friend, and friends are there for each other, aren't they?" Lyn smiled. "Now let's get going!"
"Right!" Eliwood nodded. "...You'll stay by my side though, right? Even if I can't protect you very well, I still don't want to see you hurt," he said.
"Of course! And I'll do whatever I can to help you out," Lyn said.
Feeling a fresh burst of confidence, they joined hands and walked over to where Hector and the others waited.
"This is it, guys," Hector said. "Time to crush Nergal's ambitions!"
"Right!" Lyn smiled. Eliwood smiled at his best friends, determination swelling within him.
"Let's put an end to this once and for all," he said.
They entered, and the final battle began.
