Frivolous Bribery
There was a reason Severus Snape hated the frivolous balls held by the Malfoys.
The entire idea was frivolous with the ballroom over decorated with Salazar only knew how much material, flowers and other items that had stuck either of the elder Malfoys' fancy at the time.
He hated the feeling of those fancy robes that made you feel claustrophobic and like someone was attempting to throttle you the entire night but never quite succeeding with leather shoes that were worn for beauty and not practicality. Consuming one of the various poisons in his storage room would be a much pleasanter experience that dealing with the crafty purebloods.
The only souvenirs gained from any of the pureblood balls were a good dose of embarrassment, a couple of wine stains and a couple of rare potions ingredients that were a bribe from Lucius for attending.
Even with the bribe, he had regretted attending every ball previous to this one yet here he found himself again, surrounded by scheming purebloods who would zone in on any weaknesses like a shark sensing blood.
Lucius had offered him Basilisk parts though …
