It's the middle of the night and as he rolls over in bed he can vaguely hear someone calling his name and when he finds the spot next to him cold his eyes widen and as he fully wakes up he realizes that it's Spencer. "Toby!" Her voice sounds panicked at best and he heads to nursery where the noise is coming from. He finds Spencer at the cot with her head leaning on Noah's small chest.

"He's not breathing!" She tells him desperately, tears already streaming down her face fast.

Whatever he expected her to tell him it was most definitely not that. He is by the cot in second and doing the same things Spencer was doing mere seconds ago. She's right. He's never dealt with a situation like this before but he immediately jumps into action and has the newborn in his arms rubbing his back like he saw the doctors do when they were at the hospital.

He feels like it's been hours when in reality it's only been seconds. He hasn't realized Spencer's left until she comes back in to the room with a phone pressed against her ear like a vice, he's maybe rubbing a little too hard right now but he doesn't stop.

"I don't know! I just came in and he wasn't breathing" She's telling someone which Toby recognises as their paediatrician when he responds.

A second later a small cough is heard and then a wail.

Relief washes over both of them and Spencer steps a little closer to Toby.

"Can you hear that?" She asks the phone. "Normal? Are you sure? "

She hands the phone to him, clearly not believing a word Doctor Green is telling her. "Hello?". "Toby, hi, I know your wife doesn't believe me but what just happened is completely normal and you have no reason to worry. Noah will be completely fine. If Spencer's still worried in the morning you can drop by my office and I'll check him out to give you piece of mind Alright?" "Yea sure, thanks Doctor Green" "Anytime".

Noah's crying has stopped and Toby sets the phone on the table before turning around to face Spencer.

"Sweetheart, c'mere" He tells her opening his arms.

He almost cries along with her based on the pure agony he feels at seeing her so distraught. "He's fine, it's okay baby, he's alright" He reminds her as he rubs her back and gently kisses her forehead. They set Noah, who has since fallen back asleep, down in his cot and they both take a seat on the infamous rocking chair right next to it.

They watch him for a while subconsciously watching the rise and fall of his stomach that indicates his breathing. Half an hour later, they're both falling asleep but every so often they jump alert so as not to feel like bad parents and watch him again.

They both jump when they hear a small whimpering that slowly turns into a cry but one glance at the clock that tells them it's 3am soothes them as they realize he's just hungry. Spencer carefully extracts the baby from the crib and cradles him close as she sits back down in the rocking chair and feeds him. Toby has left the room for some reason but she isn't worried anymore.

He returns shortly after just as she's finished and she's about to put him back in the crib. "I think I'll just sleep in here the rest of the morning, I'll grab a blanket and stay in the rocking chair" She informs him. Toby gives her a soft look "You and I both know that you won't get any sleep if you do that" He tells her. " C'mon I've set up the co-sleeper in our room" He takes Noah from her arms and leads them back to the master bedroom.

They gently tuck Noah into the co-sleeper in the middle of their bed before settling into bed themselves and kissing the newborn between them before finally falling asleep.
