Life sucks.
Sure there are good moments but in your line of karma…like sucks. You never meant it to be this way, but then you suppose nobody ever does. Who means to have a crush or fall in love or even admiration in any case?
Nobody you know, that's for sure.
You never meant to start crushing on H.G. but you suppose you couldn't help it. You passed it off as her saving your life after you almost combusted, but when she came back after that and your heart did another stutter when you saw her.
Life sucks.
It sucked more when you knew she'd never look at you the same way. You weren't stupid, in fact you're here at the warehouse because you're very smart, almost a genius on some levels. You saw things you know Pete missed. Like how she looked at Myka and how Myka looked back at her. You saw how their fingers brushed each other's just a moment to long, the gazes held just a bit too intense.
H.G. Wells was falling for Myka Bering. She was falling for a woman, not a girl that you know you still are.
And why shouldn't she? Myka was funny, brave, and loyal (occasionally to a fault), brains to boot, charming, beautiful, and was a top agent since who-knows-when. While Myka was falling for H.G. for almost all of the same reasons she had.
It's sucky how even though you feel a pain in your chest when you see them together that you can't really feel all too bad for yourself, because you saw this coming a million miles away. You saw it the moment you first saw them together, you'd have been a fool to not see the chemistry and feel the tension.
The only thing that helps is seeing the smile light up Myka's face when H.G. strolls into the same room. Yeah sure you've seen her happy and giddy over the months but you've never seen her that happy. And you've spoken to Leena who can see H.G.'s aura change from gray to bright and hopeful when Myka is nearby.
A bitter part of you hates to admit it but you know…you knew that they were crafted for each other. H.G. had a bitter life in her past and so has Myka but together you can see they have a chance in the future. Only a blind man would miss it…a part of you is just sad it can't be you that can help this brilliant woman change the future.
You suppose that's just the way the cookie crumbles though.
