"Have you ever watched a game of rugby football, Jack?"

"Rugby football? Isn't that the English game?"

"Well, Rugby's in England, yes, and that's where it started. But I gather it's quite widespread these days. The southern hemisphere is definitely getting its act together. New Zealand, especially, have been practicing very hard, and I expect they'll be quite good soon."

"I can't say I've seen a game. Is it like football? Like we play it here?"

"From what I recall, there's a lot in common. They have rather more rules than we do, though. All sorts of things can get someone sent off the pitch."

"Doesn't sound like our game at all, then."

"I suppose not. It's rather marvellous to watch, though. I went to a game when I was in England, and although the players were absolute hooligans on the pitch, they were … really quite gentlemanly when one met them afterwards over a cocktail."

"Talking of which, can I pour you another Negroni, Miss Fisher?"

"Do you know what, Jack? Just this once, I think I'll have a Scotch."
