It was a tragedy.
You were just minding your own business; nothing's wrong, it was supposed to be an ordinary day – when suddenly a man with flushed face yet confidence and charisma so great – politician Shido, you realized – came out of nowhere and in with his strength managed to drag you into a small, dark alley near the main road – "you shouldn't walk home alone at night", was what your mother told you before – and just smiled; a smile that made you frozen in fear and shook in nervousness as you refused his offer to have fun – you don't want fun, you just want to go home.
He smiled.
He smiled and you screamed for help; scream so hard, scream so loud that it could wake up the entire neighborhood – but it didn't, why didn't it? – that it made Shido scowled immediately, dropping his civil facade and so you cried and sobbed and rubbed your face with one hand – the other one was in his hand, you realized – only for him to slap you.
You didn't give up – of course you didn't – and keep screaming, for help, for hope that someone would come to your rescue; saving your from this... wretched being. And someone did came – a young man with a curly black hair – so dark like the night, like this alley, like his true nature – and face so innocent, a face that you would later ruin with your selfishness.
But you didn't know that, not yet, so you cried in relief as you saw him. He was your savior, someone to save you from this torture. You put so much hope in him on your face, and he in return simply nodded his head – thank god, for whoever up there – and you finally could relax, could be relieved...
Only to see him being arrested and dragged away by the police for hurting Shido – it happened so fast, there's nothing you could do – and then he faced you with a questioning face, hurt and betrayed. So of course you looked away from him, turning your head to look at Shido who was wearing a stern face despite his flushed face – a lie, a mask, don't trust this man – just like the politician he is.
You went home after receiving a threat, and was welcomed with warm smile on the face of your mother and father, and you answered them with a smile of your own and a greeting. A warm meal was waiting you home, and you talked about everything – not that, not the tragedy – while your parents so happily respond with their own talk, and you feel happy to return back to your ordinary life.
You were selfish, and you still are. There is nothing more selfish than to give a false statement to arrest a young man with future so bright – his innocent face, his betrayed feeling, you're sorry you're so sorry – to trade his freedom with a man so corrupt and so dirty – you know that now – that you actually hitched your breath and turned your face away every single time you heard his voice or looked at his face on your television. You felt guilty, but you're not guilty? Are you?
You're not.
You were a victim.
So you closed your eyes, closed your ears, and closed your mouth – see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil – to turn away from reality. You were not guilty, so you were innocent – lies lies all lies – and there's nothing wrong with that. You closed your eyes when Shido smiled at you for being a good girl, you closed your ears when the young man cried for help – like you, like the past you -, and you closed your mouth when someone asked you about an incident involving a young man from the neighborhood.
You were just glad that you can live your ordinary life now.
