I was sitting on the curb in front of my skip's house. The knees of my jeans were ripped, my ponytail was precariously teetering at the back of my head, and my elbows were skinned from falling on the sidewalk. There were dirt smudges all over my body. My car was missing a tire...or four, and my skip, a drunken and disorderly, had gotten away. I was frustrated beyond belief, and was pretty sure it was apparent. Having called the only person I trust to come get me, I was waiting for my knight on his black horse to come take me away. A black Porsche pulled up behind my car, and Ranger angled out of it.
"Babe." He smirked.
"It wasn't my fault!" I stared up at him.
"It never is." He reached up and wiped dirt off of my cheek. "Getting dirty before I get here?"
I wrinkled my nose at him and resisted the urge to stick my tongue out. "It's my thing. I need a bigger one."
"Morelli's not doing the trick anymore?"
"It's too small. It's not getting the job done. Everyone looks at it and laughs." I sighed miserably.
Ranger smirked.
"No one thinks it can do anything. My skip offered me the use of his before he ran off on me. How pathetic is that? Even my skips know that this thing can't get the job done."
"You could use my thing." The corner of Ranger's mouth tipped in a Ranger smile.
My eyes opened slightly. "I'm not sure I could handle your thing, Ranger." Ranger's thing was really big, and I wasn't quite sure that I wanted my new one to be that large. I'm not sure that I have the strength and stamina needed for Ranger's thing.
"I'll let you try." Ranger raised an eyebrow and leered.
I blushed to the roots of my hair. "Are we just going to leave my car here?"
"Al will be by soon with a tow truck. You'll have new tires in no time." Ranger face was blank, but his voice held amusement.
"Oh good." I love that car. It's an adorable red Mini. I love that car. It rivals my Miata that got reposessed, except this car had a sound system that even Lula approved of, but the car was small, and fitting some skips in it were a task, but I loved that car and wasn't ready to give it up to Car Heaven quite yet.
"Get in, Babe. I 'll drive you home and make sure your car gets back to you before tomorrow morning."
The next day I was sitting in the Bonds' office with the girls, eating donuts. I was looking through files. Lula was pretending to file them, and Connie was filing her nails. The hairs on the back of my head stood straight just as the door was opening.
Looking up, Ranger walked in. "Ladies." He nodded and walked into Vinnie's office.
Connie and Lula were fanning themselves. "Girl, I don't know why you don't jump his bones. He could melt butter by just looking at it." Butter? Connie and I looked at Lula. "What?" Before either of us, could respond, Ranger walked back out.
He looked at Connie. "Any files?" She wordlessly handed him some off of her desk. "Babe, want to run an errand?"
"Where to?"
"To get you a bigger thing since you won't use mine."
I blushed as I stood. "Yeah, let's go."
The girls were staring at Ranger and I. Ranger smiled all 200 watts at the girls and led me out the door with his hand on my back. As we left I could hear Lula say, "Yup, butter," as we walked out. Opening the passenger side door of his Bronco, I jumped and closed the door. Getting in on the other side, he smiled, "You sure you don't want my thing, Babe? You'd be really happy with my thing. You know what my thing is capable of ."
I blushed deeply and settled back for the short drive. Ranger left the lot and drove to Sonny's Gun Shop. "Ready to pick out a bigger gun, Babe?"
