Prompt - Scandal
Pairing - Lavender/Lockhart
How could she love him when he'd been proven to be a liar, a fraud who built his fame on the backs of those who'd come before him? That was the question they asked after his most recent scandal revealed that he'd never actually accomplished any of the heroic acts he claimed to have done.
But Lavender Brown, along with thousands of others, still wrote to him, sending him mountains of fan mail along with the usual request for autographed material. Anything would do, perhaps a photograph to remember who he was before his fall from grace. And in the end she found herself bringing his photograph to St. Mungo's, hoping it would jog his memory.
He would talk to her, always exuberant, smiling and making elaborate gestures when he couldn't find the words he needed to express himself. There were days when he could do nothing more than flutter his fingers and bat his eyelashes at her, his speech failing, his writing no more than a series of hastily written scribbles on sheets of parchment. She would then lean in close, stroking his golden curls and gently shushing him when his cries rose in volume.
Day by day, his frustration gradually diminished, each visit during the summer months helping to ease his transition from a life of fame to one where he could barely remember her name. But names meant nothing when he saw her enter the room, a smile blossoming on his lips the moment he laid eyes on her. He remembered her face, and that was enough, for they didn't need words to show their love for each other.
