Jessie: Hello! This is my first (and likely only, but I don't know, I
haven't even FINISHED it yet...) Harry Potter fanfiction. It's about time
I got it up, though, so here it is! Please, no flaming, but I'm glad for
any advice you have on my writing! Oh, and reviews are good too. ^_^

Harry looked out his bedroom window at the full moon, thinking about last year's events, which he'd found himself doing quite frequently over the summer. He wasn't exactly concerned that Voldemort would come after him so soon, so out in the open. No, Harry guessed, he probably would take more time to strategize, make sure his plan was foolproof, which wasn't exactly a comforting thought. Harry was busy working harder than ever on his schoolwork over the summer, writing responses to the letters which Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, and Sirius wrote him, and trying to spare himself from Dudley's relentless taunting that he didn't have much chance to sit and ponder it anyway. The Dursleys had been crueller than ever to him, and yet at the same time, almost horrified of him, since the incident between Dudley and Fred and George's Ton-Tongue toffees.
Harry stood up, stretched, and walked back over to his bed. Though his mind had been well distracted throughout his vacation, there was no concealing the knowledge that somewhere, right now, people could be being ruthlessly murdered, by a beast not worthy of being called a man, whose blood had traces of Harry's own flowing through it. The same one who'd killed his parents, sent Neville's mad, and given Harry the lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead, which burned dully almost constantly. It wasn't an easy thing to let your mind stray from. The knowledge that he'd be returning to the wizarding world soon, where Voldemort could easily track him down, gave him a queasy ache in the stomach.
Suddenly feeling a bit overwhelmed with all his thoughs, Harry laid back in bed. He'd spent too many nights dwelling on them and he still had to finish his reports on Gorgotha the Gross for History of Magic class, which, he thought, would be another nice distraction. He really shouldn't dwell on those thoughts, now. He pulled his quill and parchment from the loose floorboard under his bed and started writing. It was only two weeks until his fifteenth birthday, and before he knew it, he'd be back at Hogwarts under the care of Dumbledore and in the comfort of his friends-- even if it meant putting up with Malfoy for another year; that was nothing compared to other things he'd faced in life....
Harry suddenly realized his thoughts were running loops, and so he occupied himself with the report, writing until he was too exhausted and then putting away his homework, laying back and falling asleep instantly. It wasn't hard, as Gorgotha the Gross's life story was far from even the slightest bit interesting and had about the same effect on him as the goblet of sleeping potion he'd downed at the end of last year.

Okay, short first chapter, but gimme a break--that's just the way I write, and I could never come near J.K. Rowling's individual writing style. o_~
Please R&R!
