A Picnic Under The Moonlight

As the sun departed the sky the moved rises along with its companions the stars. While many of the birds were asleep the owls were still awake and their melody of hoots echoed though the sky.

At Camp Half Blood many of the children and teachers were sitting at the annual campfire. Percy was running late, he had just finished his homework and was about to join the others when he spotted Chiron heading in the opposite direction.

The raven haired centaur stopped he nodded to Percy who noticed a picnic basket in his mentors hand. Not to mention his brushed back hair along with an aroma of cologne.

"Looking good." Percy complimented.

"Thanks." Chiron replied.

Percy wanted to ask where he was going but he knew it wasn't any of his business. So he went on to joined the others by the campfire instead.

On a hill looking over the camp a woman with long silver hair and blue eyes sat there admiring the moon. A smile spread across her lips when her ears picked up a familiar trotting sound.

"Good evening Chiron." The woman said.

"Good evening Selene." Chiron replied.

Selene spread out a blanket across the grass as Chiron placed the basket in the center. She then opened the basket and separated the sandwiches and pulled out a bottle of champagne.

Popping off the top Selene poured some champagne into the two glasses, she handed one to Chiron along with a sandwich.

"Cheers." they said in unison.

Sipping from their glasses and biting into their sandwich both Selene and Chiron stood side by side admiring their surroundings.

"Your sandwich taste good." Selene complimented.

"I'm glad you like it, I tend to make my sandwiches simple." Chiron said.

Silence erupted between them as they continued to eat their sandwiches while having another glass of champagne.

"Such a peaceful night...maybe the battle you are all training for will never come." Selene said

"No...like it or not this peace isn't meant to last, I would say it a calm before the storm." Chiron replied.

Silence fell across them once more but this time Selene took a hold of Chiron's hand.

"Then let us enjoy this calm a little longer." Selene said.

The two of them looked at one another for a few moments before staring back at the moon. While they knew they were living on borrowed time. They would never forget this night, for it would be a long time before they could enjoy peace like this again.
