Katniss and Peeta Happily Ever After In Detail
Katniss' POV
"Mommy?" Katherine asked.
"Yes sweetheart?" I answered, putting a smile on my face that was only half genuine.
"Can you get Daddy so he can sing to me?" Katherine pleaded.
"Of course honey, let me find him." Luckily for me Delly was walking by. "Hey Delly, do you think you can watch Katherine and Jonathan?"
Of course Katniss." I walked inside as Katherine ran and Jonathan hobbled towards Delly. I found Peeta staring out the window in our bed room. His fists were balled up tightly and his jaw was clenched. I recognized what it meant when he was like this. I waited outside the doorway until the moment passed. Peeta finally slouched, stretching out his fingers and massaging his jaw. I gave him a minute to recover and then cleared my throat.
His head snapped up as he looked up. "How long have you been there?" he asked.
"That is nothing you need to worry about. Katherine wants you to sing to her." When I said her name a little happiness managed to leak into his eyes.
"Ok." He got up and followed my out of the bedroom. When we got outside we were greeted by an impatient Katherine.
"Daddy! Will you sing to me?" she asked hopefully.
"Of course sweetheart, what song do you want to here?"
"The Hanging Tree Daddy! Sing it to me! Sing it to me!" Katherine pleaded, turning the full force of her puppy dog eyes on Peeta.
"If you say so." Peeta said and started to sing:
"Are you, are you,
coming to the tree?
Where they strung up a man they say murdered three.
Strange things did happen here,
no stranger would it be.
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you,
coming to the tree?
Where the dead man called out for his love to flee.
Strange things did happen here,
no stranger would it be.
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you,
coming to the tree?
Where I told you to run so we'd both be free.
Strange things did happen here,
no stranger would it be.
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you,
coming to the tree?
Wear a necklace of rope, side by side with me.
Strange things did happen here,
no stranger would it be.
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree."
As his beautifully sweet voice started to finish the song Jonathan, who had drifted over to us after the first verse practically fell asleep leaning against me. I picked him up and then put him in his bed.
Katherine asked if she could take a nap. "Sure honey, you don't need to ask, just tell us. Okay?" I said to her, shocked by her politeness.
"Okay mommy. I will." She said. She crawled into her bed, her blue eyes slowly shutting closed. I collapsed on the couch, completely beat even though we just had lunch only an hour ago.
Peeta's POV
I found Katniss crashed on the couch, dog tired. When I walked by her eyes fluttered open. "I thought you were asleep?" I asked kneeling in front of her.
"I was almost asleep. Playing with a seven year old and a two year old all day can really wear a mother out." She said tiredly.
"If you're really that tired, shouldn't you be in your own bed?" I asked as I scooped her off the couch.
"Peeta!" she exclaimed as I started walking towards the bedroom. I set her down on our bed and laughed at the pout on her face.
"What?" I said as I continued to laugh. It feels so good to laugh. I'm glad I have reasons to laugh, life is so much better that way.
