My Happy Ending

In response to a challenge from Cherrydrops12. SANDLE!

Chapter 1:

I had no idea why she wouldn't talk to me. We'd been at work for an hour already and she hadn't said anything, even through the short ride to the scene and now while we were processing.

"Sara?" I asked. "Are you okay?"

She didn't look up, just kept working.

I sighed, standing up and approaching her. "Sara." I repeated.

Still no reply, though she looked deep in thought. "Why am I being ignored?" I asked, putting a hand on her shoulder. Apparently that was enough to draw her off of whatever planet she'd spent the last sixty minutes on.

"Huh?"

"You haven't even managed to say 'Hi' today, let alone form anything that would constitute an entire sentence. What's up with you?" I questioned, pointing out the fact she'd failed to notice.

She looked back down, continuing with her fingerprinting. "I just… have a lot on my mind." She replied.

I kneeled beside her, "You wanna talk about whatever has you so worried?"

She shook her head. "I'm leaving, Greg."

That definitely got my attention. "What?"

"I'm accepting a grant to study in Quantico. I'm leaving next week," she told me, the words absorbing into my mind.

I was in utter shock. "But… why? Why would you wanna go and do that?"

"I'm sorry, Greg. But I just can't stay here anymore."

I felt like crying. I didn't, but I felt like it. "This is about Grissom, isn't it?" I asked, voicing my suspicion.

Much to my surprise, she shook her head. "I'm over Grissom."

"Then why?"

She turned to face me. "Just, I need to go." That wasn't barely a sentence, let alone a justifiable reason.

I pinched myself, praying I'd be in my own bed when I opened my eyes, and this had all been just a terribly cruel nightmare. No such luck for me, I was still at the scene, Sara watching me as if I'd grown an extra head.

"Please, Sara." I begged. "You can't go."

She shook her head. "I don't have any reason to stay, Greg."

I grabbed her hand as she turned to walk away. "You have Nick, Warrick, Catherine, Grissom, and Me, Sara."

"Greg…"

"Just listen, okay?" she nodded. "You are the only reason I am a C.S.I. You put up with my training, all my questions, dumb as half of them were, and you stuck by me. You're my friend, and I don't wanna see you go."

She bit her lip, looking down at her feet.

I continued, before I lost my nerve. "Just, give me one chance to show you how much you mean to me?"

I succeeded in getting her attention. "You mean a date?" she asked me.

I nodded. "One date. And if you seriously don't see how much losing you will effect anything, I will personally take you to the airport."

"One date." She agreed, again, much to my surprise.

I smiled, glad she was giving me the chance to show her just how much she meant to me. "After shift?"

She nodded. "Alright."

Before I knew it, we were done processing, heading back to the lab in silence once again. She was probably still mulling over her possible upcoming move, I was planning out what I'd do tonight. It had to be perfect. It wasn't just a date; it was what my entire future was depending on.

Okay... thats chapter one. There will be more in the future, not sure when. Review!
