There is dying in "I love you"

There is "now all that I see is you"

A stratagem so dishonest

There's nothing these words attest

There is a question in "I love you"

There is "do you love me too?"

-Free translation of "Sache que je" from Jean-Jacques Goldman.

FAIR ENOUGH

"Puddin'?"

Like always, the gentle call echoed in the Joker's superb ignorance of it, and Harley sighed in resignation for a moment. No matter they just made love (at least as far as Harley was concerned), it seemed every time he blocked her out afterwards, forcing her mentally to the oblivion he kept screaming he'll send her sometimes if she didn't shut up soon.

It wasn't fair.

Such a futile exercise, but Harley kept asking anyway. Just like her make-up—would she stop wearing it because it always washed away? Sure not. All the same for the costume, the tone, the goal and the plea, a whole alphabet starting with Adoration and ending with Zealous, spelling harsh commitment with a rose between the teeth. After all, wasn't he her prince charming, awaking her from her dull, sparkless sleep to a life of merriment and fun?

She deserved a fairytale answer. Because it was. Star-crossed bound-to-be melodrama destiny's whim. She knew it. He must too, deep down.

But then, was Arkham a castle?

And even so, did it make the situation fairer? If princesses are those freed from castles, then what was she?

"Puddin'?"

A despaired, irritated tensing of the muscles.

"You're mine. Now for Christ's sake, shut up!"

His large, white back continued to shiver hard in barely contained annoyance, and Harley glued herself to it, tears of joy prickling at her eyes as she finally quieted down. It was, as he long ago said, fair enough.

Fair Enough-End

End Notes

Written in approx. two days, from the moment Paige said she probably would die on the operation table and that I inherited her Joker's statue if it was the case…. Just kidding. I think it's a great piece, despite the many changes that it suffered through these 48 hours. The last line refers to the NML's novel, tweaked to my convenience.

Notice the double story going on as Joker answers both her inner and outer question—or was it the same, or was she talking out loud? I let the reader decides. That said, it feels good to be on the writing scene again! -hugs everyone-.
