Lily Potter was known for her fierce protective streak. Unfortunately for her, that same protective streak was putting her in quite a bind. Her husband was dead, and the madman responsible was now forcing her to make a choice. Putting it simply, she had to choose which one of her sons was to live. Protect her five year old son Harry, resulting in her life as well as the life of her unborn son being forfeit; or choose to save herself, leading to Harry's death. There was also the strong possibility that he would kill all three of them. 'Or at least he will, if I don't get to Harry first.' she thought to herself. Having made up her mind as to which son she would save, she raced up to Harry's bedroom, placing herself in front of him as a shield. The young child was terrified, having been unfortunate enough to witness his father's death. "Mommy, I'm scared," he cried. "Don't worry sweetie, Mommy will protect you," she said, steeling herself for what was to come. Unconsciously she reached for her wand, although it wouldn't do her any good. After all, magickal pregnancies tend to skew with the magickal balance within the mothers, rendering their wands useless. But she would be damned if she didn't even try.
"Well Lily, it appears you have made your choice," the man said as he entered the bedroom. "Yes, I have," she replied. "But I'm not going without a fight!" she yelled, her wand at ready position. "So be it then. Avada Kedavra!!" he yelled, sending a jet of green light at the mother. "Protego!!" she yelled, hoping beyond hope that a miracle would occur. To her astonishment, and to the astonishment of her attacker, one actually did. The shield held! But, something was different. Normally her shield was an opalescent white, but this one was pure black, so much so, that neither side could see beyond it. 'What theā¦' she thought, before focusing her energies on maintaining the shield. Her thought process was a scant second too slow however, as her attacker recovered from the shock before she did, increasing the power of the spell. "It is a shame that you must die today Lily," he said with fake regret. "A witch with your power would have perfect as one of my subordinates. Oh well" he stated, smiling sadistically. The strength of his spell continued to rise, causing cracks to appear on the shield. Eventually, because of the amount of strain on her mind and body, Lily's concentration broke. The shield fell, causing the green light to hit her directly in the chest...
