Title: "Falling"

Summary: Panic wells up in his heart, but the winds whisper, "fall" soothingly, and for a second he really considers letting go. His dark eyes close, and his pale face relaxes as his body falls forward.

Disclaimer: I do not own the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series! I do, however, own the plot to this drabble/one-shot, sort of.

The wind pushes against his back in the most tempting of manners, gently urging him to let go of the Argo II's mast. For a moment he listens to the soft whispers, and his pale, slim fingers relax their grip.

And in the next he feels the sudden rush of falling, and on instinct his hand once against grabs desperately to the cylinder of wood.

His heart beats rapidly inside his chest, and his dark eyes are wide as he looks down at the deck of the ship. His in and outtakes of air are raspy, quick in pace. He takes a couple deep breaths, slowly calming himself down from the initially panic of what had almost happened.

Almost, he thinks rather bitterly. As the wind rushes by, another strong gust, his ears pick up the sound of laughter. The wind gods must be laughing at him, mocking him for his weakness. He grits his teeth at the thought.

"Not weak enough to fall," he mutters under his breath, his eyes narrowing in a glare and shining with self-loathing, "But not strong enough to keep going… how pathetic."

His breathing isn't raspy anymore, and his heart has returned to its regular beating rhythm. Ba-dump. Ba-dump. Ba-dump. He silently watches the horizon. The wind pushes at his back again, and for a moment he gets the same feeling as before. His fingers uncurl, and his heart begins to race.

Panic wells up in his heart, but the winds whisper, "fall" soothingly, and for a second he really considers letting go. His dark eyes close, and his pale face relaxes as his body falls forward.

He doesn't fall, though. Just as all the times before, he stops himself. His hand once again reaches for the mast of the Argo II, and he simply looks down at the deck once again.

Falling is painful, he reminds himself bitterly, gritting his teeth together. Falling is very painful.
