I Think . . . . . I Know

"Hey." Elliot said as he quietly walked into the hospital room.

"Hey." Olivia said back, looking up and smiling at Elliot. She looked back down to the small blue bundle in her arms.

"How is he?" Elliot asked, almost in a whisper, trying not to wake the newborn in her arms.

"Just fine, ten fingers, ten toes. How did all of you guys find out?" Olivia asked, meaning Munch, Finn, and Craigen who had just left.

"I heard it through the grapevine. Finn and Lake were on a scene and heard the call come through the ambulance. They told me when they got back to the station." Elliot sat the vase of flowers he had brought on the bedside table and stood next to Olivia's bed.

"So what exactly happened? Why in the world did you end up giving birth on the side of the rode in your car?"

"I had started to feel contractions, but they weren't that painful. I waited about thirty minutes and the contractions got closer together so I got in the car. I thought I could drive to the hospital; but he had other plans. I pulled over in the Starbuck's parking lot to call an ambulance and everything just kind of happened. The one woman who saw me and what was happening called 911 and she says his head was out before the dispatcher even answered the call. I think she nearly passed out when she realized that too." Olivia said laughing a bit.

"You're so stubborn, and it seems he's taken after his mother." Elliot said with a smirk.

"How have you been?" Olivia asked.

"Good."

"Find a woman yet who could put up with you longer than a week?" Olivia asked, referring to his three girlfriends that lasted not much longer than a week each.

"Yeah actually. Her name is Holly and we've been seeing each other for almost four months now. Of course it doesn't hurt that she's a homicide detective. She knows what the job is like and she did a short stint in Jersey SVU, so she knows what my job is like. She doesn't let me shut her out."

"That's wonderful." Olivia said, genuinely happy for him.

"Do you want to hold him?" Olivia asked, lifting the baby towards him. He nodded his head and took the baby into his arms.

"So does he have a name yet?" Elliot asked as he looked over the infant.

"Yeah, Elias Stone Benson."

"Elias Stone Benson. A good strong name for him; nothing kids will make fun of him for." Then they fell into an uncomfortable silence, only because they were avoiding the huge white elephant in the room.

"You were already pregnant when you left SVU."

"Yeah."

"Which means you asked for the transfer, not because you wanted to get pregnant, but because you already were. A month and a half to be exact."

"I didn't want any complications." Olivia said.

"Liv . . ." She smiled at the pet name that Elliot had stuck her with so long ago.

"El . . ." They sat in silence for nearly ten minutes and then he felt his cell phone vibrate. He handed Elias back to Olivia and took the phone out of his pocket. When he flipped it open he was informed that he had a new message.

"I have to go." He said after reading the message from Holly, reminding him that they were supposed to go to a movie in 45 minutes. He was halfway out the door when Olivia spoke again.

"I think I'll call him El for short."

And he had the answer to his unspoken question

"I know that you'll make a great mother."

And she had the answer to her unspoken question.
