Headcanon alert! Blaine and Kurt are the same age and therefore graduated at the same time.
"Blaine, what are we doing out here, it's freezing!" Kurt said through chattering teeth. Blaine just smiled, making his way through the snowy garden outside of their apartment, his gloved hand clasped awkwardly around Kurt's. Finally, he stopped in front of the snowman they had built a few days prior and tugged Kurt into the snow with him.
"I just want to sit out here with you for a bit," he murmured, pulling his boyfriend close and kissing his cheek.
"I don't see why we couldn't cuddle by the heater," Kurt grumbled, snuggling closer and resting his head on Blaine's shoulder. The garden was sleeping, the trees stripped bare and the colourful flowers that had adored the place in the summer and autumn buried deep under several inches of snow.
"I have my reasons," Blaine said vaguely. "For now, let's just sit here and enjoy the quiet."
They sat there for several minutes until Kurt sighed. "I'm cold, can't we go inside and watch some of those cheesy Christmas specials?"
Blaine laughed, pulling away slightly. "Sure, babe." Kurt made to stand, but he stopped him with a hand on his shoulder. "Wait, I have something for you, before we go inside."
"Blaine, we said we weren't going to exchange gifts this year, since money is so tight," Kurt said, frowning.
"I know, but I just…" Blaine trailed off, looking anxious, before handing Kurt a small box, wrapped neatly and tied with a little bow. "I wanted to."
Kurt leaned over, rubbing his nose against Blaine's. "I love you."
"I love you."
Slowly, Kurt loosed the bow and unwrapped the paper and there, sitting in the palm of his hand, was little ring box. "Blaine?"
He swallowed thickly. "I need you to stand up for this part." His voice came out rougher than he wanted, but Kurt stood, dazed, as Blaine moved until he was on one knee. "Kurt Hummel, I love you with everything I have. I love everything you choose to be. I love those lines that frame your mouth when you smile and the way you look at me like I'm the only person in the world. Will you do me the great honour of becoming my husband?" Blaine opened the box, still in Kurt's shaking hand.
Inside was- "Oh my god, is that from the Elizabeth Taylor Christie's collection?"
"It is," Blaine confirmed, smiling. "I remember you talking about it when we did the Christmas special last year."
"But, Blaine-"
"You still haven't given me an answer, you know."
Kurt half-laughed, half-sobbed, threw his arms around Blaine, murmuring, "Yes, yes, of course I'll marry you, you wonderful man!" He pulled back, peppering Blaine's face with kisses before melding their mouths together. "I love you, so much."
"I love you more."
"Best first New York Christmas ever?" Blaine asked a few minutes later as they headed back to their apartment.
"Best Christmas ever," Kurt replied, kissing his fiancee again.
