Title: Old Friends
Author: BabyGirlJ
Rating: PG-13 (overall)
Spoilers: Anything up to the middle of "Smashed". Everything else is fair game.
Disclaimer: I don't anything except the paper and pencils used to write this story. BtVS belongs to ME, Joss Whedon, UPN, and Fox.
Summary: What if an unexpected visitor showed up and the end of Smashed never happened?
Author's Note: I know this is a very very short chapter, I'm just not used to writing and I'm sure when I get used to it my writing will be much better especially once I get a feel for the characters and such! I hope you enjoy this, and I promise it will get better along with my writing!!!
Feedback: Good for the writer's soul.
Chapter One: Unexpected Visitor
Buffy and Xander stood outside the Magic Box in silence waiting for Anya to finish locking up the store. They were startled from the silence as Anya declared, "There all done!" She gave a great smile in Buffy's direction and then turned to face Xander. "Xander let's go home and have sex." Xander gave Buffy an awkward smile and placed his arm around Anya.
"So. I guess we'll do more research on our, uh, mysterious diamond-eating- freeze-monster tomorrow," Buffy said feeling out of place around the happy couple.
"Yeah, we'll meet you here in the morning." Xander replied with a slight nod.
"Alright, goodnight." Buffy told them, glad to be heading home.
"Bye Buffy!" Xander and Anya called over their shoulders, heading home from the Magic Box.
As soon as Buffy turned around, someone caught her eye. She could barely believe what she was seeing. She hadn't expected to see him anytime soon, let alone now. She was very shocked to say the least. Not because he was standing only a few feet away from her, but because she never thought he'd come back after all that had happened. She made a mistake, she didn't love him like he loved her. After he left she realized she did truly love him and she could only hope that he'd come back.
She didn't know what to say, where to start. There was so much to tell him, so much to say. They both looked at each other intently, neither knowing what to say or how to react to the others presence.
Buffy's first instinct was to run as far and as fast as possible, not knowing what to do. She thought about it for a second and quickly changed her mind and stay. She knew what to do.
She slowly raised her eyes to meet his and tentatively took a step closer to him, closing the distance between them. She continued to just look into his eyes as if she were lost. She leisurely drew her right hand to touch his cheek. As soon as her palm hit his cheek a lone tear fell from her eyes. She swiftly exhaled the air she didn't even know she was holding in. She tried to say something but the words weren't coming to her.
She gasped and quickly removed her hand from his cheek to cover her mouth as she let out a sob. She just stared up at him with wide eyes and he closed the space between them and pulled her into his embrace as she softly cried. No words were spoken, they already knew what the other was thinking.
He continued to run his hands up and down her back in a soothing gesture as she cried into his chest. Once her cries subsided she pulled away from him slightly and struggled to say something. When she finally had the strength to say something, it was in a hushed whisper. "Riley?!" Buffy said in a strained voice form her crying. He just nodded and pulled her back into his arms.
