Set in Outo Country. Minor Spoilers, but only if you can catch them.

"Can you play?"

"No, I just thought it would look nice!"

The Grand Piano sat in the dining room of that Cat's Eye Café. It had only been played once, if you could call it playing. Only one key had been struck, by a man who knew nothing of the piano. Or so he said. But we know you can't always trust what Fye D. Flourite says.

It was a quiet night, peaceful. The kids were in bed. Sakura had passed out long ago from serving the customers, and Shaoran had taken her to bed, along with Mokona, and he himself followed. Kurogane had left with only a sidelong glance and a grunt, seeming to say "You're crazy still working this late" leaving Fye alone to finish cleaning.

The clock ticked by peacefully as Fye wiped down the counters and put away the last of the dishes. Feeling accomplished, he sat down on the piano bench to take in the quiet stillness. It reminded him of a place far away, equally as quiet, equally as still, but nowhere near as peaceful. A place where cold bit his bones and blood matted his hair. A place where nothing grew, nothing changed. Stillness.

He opened the lid to the piano, and gently ran his fingers over the keys. He shifted himself to sit properly on the bench.

"No one will hear..." he thought to himself. "But you never know with Mokona around..." he chuckled lightly. He took off his tie and laid it flat. A lightning blue light shot out from his left hand as he wrote magic upon it.

"That should do it." He said as he tied the ribbon around his neck in a loose knot. He said something, but it came out unintelligible. Well, not to Fye, to him it sounded like a far away world and a castle covered in snow.

He stuck a key, finding the right note, then he got to work. At first the song was simple, a light, melancholy tune, almost like a folk song. It was. It was a lullaby from Celes, one he had heard the town mothers sing to their children, a song of snow, but Fye did not sing. Not yet.

Soon the tune picked up, switching to a new song, and Fye opened his lips to utter a sweet, deep sound, words from Celes, a deep baritone one would have thought to be impossible from the look of the man. Then the song changed to a tenor. It was beautiful as his long, delicate fingers raced up and down along the keys, creating complicated back rhythms and harmonies. But Fye was forgetting himself. The tune became louder as a certain verse came up. A verse that always struck his heart, always struck to close to home, as it should. It was a song he had written long ago, when he had first arrived in Celes from that place. First there was only one tear, then two, but his voice did not waver as the song came to its end, one last, deep note struck synonymously with an impossibly high one, leaving the man stretched before the ivory keys, a note of sorrow. He folded his arms in.

"Fye..." was all he said before laying his head to silently cry.

"Fye-san..." Sakura whispered, an unknown spectator to the mage's performance. A hand appeared on her shoulder. Kurogane shook his head. "He doesn't want us to know."he muttered solemnly, a deeper respect for the blonde forming in the depths of his heart. He led the children back to bed.

Back to lies.
