My Confession

'You okay Scully?' He asked as he gently straightened the crease in her sleeve.

'I'm fine Mulder.'

'You sure 'cause you've seemed a little off lately.'

'I don't like losing people.'

He studied her saddened expression and spoke, this time a little slower. 'We didn't lose him. He was already gone.'

'It was my fault.'

'Nothing's ever your fault Scully. If it is ever anyone's fault it's mine.'

'I should have been able to save him.'

'He was shot three times Scully.'

She looked up at Mulder with glassy eyes. He smiled and she smiled back.

'You wanna hear a secret.' She began, 'Well it's not really a secret, more of a confession.'

'Tell me.' He said softly.

'When I first met you I didn't like you. I thought you were an arrogant, cocky, disgrace of an FBI agent.'

'What changed?' He smirked.

Scully swatted his arm playfully. 'You wanna hear or not?'

'I'm listening,' he grinned, 'Promise.'

'Up until about three hours ago I still thought you were a cocky bastard. But I don't anymore. You showed guts back there Mulder. You were brave, selfless and my opinion of you totally changed.' She reached out and grabbed his hand.

'I know I can be a little 'by the book'-'

'Only a little?'

'Oh haha. Point is, I know I can be a pain in your ass, your very cute ass btw.'

'Have you been drinking?' Mulder asked, trying to conceal his grin.

'I had a couple of drinks in the bar opposite, why?'

'No reason, just finish telling me your confession.'

'Yeah so I can be a-'

'Pain in my ass yes.'

'I know Mulder.'

'Sorry.' He muttered.

She paused for a moment and reached her hand out to brush her fingertips along his jaw line.

'I just wanted to say sorry for not sticking up for you and that, from now on, I got your back. God that sounds corny.'

'It does.'

'I'm sorry.'

'Don't apologize.' Mulder said as he moved closer towards Scully. 'Just kiss me Dana.'
