I doubt many of you will like this story and I'm already prepared for the bashing and that's okay. But I've learned that when you grow up with something, no matter how hard you try not to be the type of people you are around, there are cases where you turn into the person you never wanted to be, and that's where this story came from…and the song gave me the idea as well of course. So feel free to bash away and tell me he'd never do such a thing…I like the story, that's all that counts.
The first time it happened he had no idea what came over him. He wasn't that type of person. Growing up he swore he would never do that, and yet he lied to himself. After the first incident he apologized profusely and swore he'd never do it again. That was also a lie. As he laid in bed the first night he played back what happened, he wondered how he could have ever hurt Emily Prentiss. All she's ever done was help him and show him how to love after Haley died. She was amazing with Jack and the little boy loved her dearly. He loved her dearly and yet he laid his hands on her. Hotch had turned into his father and that was someone he never wanted to be. So he showered her with flowers and candy and hoped that everything would be forgiven.
When the second time happened he blamed it on too much alcohol and he had to wonder why Emily stayed. Hotch had no idea what came over him to make him hit her and again he apologized profusely. He gave her more flowers and took her out to dinner to show her how sorry he was. And as he watched Emily lean over and kiss him on his lips, Hotch knew that she forgave him, and he couldn't figure out why.
The third time Hotch blamed his actions on losing a case. He hated children cases, especially if they lost several kids along the way. He had no reason to blame Emily, let alone hit her, but that's what he did. And as she stayed with him, he knew the love she felt for him was so strong and he loved her more for that, but also hated her because if she would have left him, he may have been able to stop. But no matter how hard he tried and no matter what he did he couldn't stop hurting her.
As time went on Hotch saw Emily become more and more cautious around him. She would try to censor herself so she wouldn't say anything to set him off and yet somehow she would. After the tenth time Hotch knew he needed help. The love he had for Emily was so strong, he didn't want to hurt her in any way and yet he had…repeatedly. She deserved better, she deserved to be with someone who wouldn't harm her and who would treat her like a princess, and if it killed him or if he had to go to see a therapist that's what he would do, because if Emily stayed with him through out everything, she deserved to be rewarded. And he loved her enough to get help and make her happy. And that's what he was going to do.
