It had been going well. Arashi's plan had gone smoothly up to this point, and the pretty kitsune was optimistic about getting the job done quickly.
In human form, she blended in at the funeral perfectly, a wig of black hair in a tight bun, wearing gray robes and holding a fan in her long, thin fingers. Arashi smiled when needed, and frowned slightly when she decided it was right. Blending in delicately with the nobles was easy for the ninja.
Scanning the room for her target with golden eyes, Arashi Ran held her fan carefully, knowing no one would notice that it was, in all honesty, a weapon.
At last she spotted her target, a nobleman held at high admiration, though Hikage knew of his shady dealings in slave trade. It was time to act.
She gracefully made her way closer to him, a subtle look of superiority playing at her delicate features. Their eyes met, and Arashi spoke.
"Good evening, Lord Soh Muto. " she greeted him quietly. The man was drunk; she could tell from his confused expression.
"Good... Morning... Merodi..." He mumbled. His brown eyes were barely open. This was going to be too easy.
"My Lord, you look ill. Shall I escort you to your room?" She asked sweetly, long lashed eyes seeming innocent to any onlookers.
The man mumbled and Arashi took his arm, half pulling, half guiding him to a different room. The fool began to quietly call for his deceased nephew, the reason for the funeral. Arashi quieted him before leading him to his bedroom. She had memorized a map of the home, which had been given to her by the client. She left him in his room, preparing poisoned evening tea for the criminal.
She gave him the tea, and ordered the noble to drink it, which he did slowly. When the last drops were drained from the cup, he dropped it, letting it shatter to white fragments. The noble began choking, as Arashi took off the mask and wig disguising her as Merodi, his wife, whom she had already disposed of. She smirked.
"Farewell, Soh Muto... Until the next life." She left the teacup remnants where they lay, at the dead man's feet before walking off to the balcony. There she tied a rope to the fencing around the edges of the balcony, and fell down into the gardens. From there she slipped away from the luxurious home, to the Sleeping Banshee, an inn known for its tea.
Once there she dressed in a sleeping gown, and hid her shuriken in a false-bottomed chest. She put the fan under her pillow, changed to her true form, and lay down to sleep.
Tomorrow she would receive her pay, load her things onto a carriage, and return to her own house, where she would await the next assignment. The kitsune sighed. It wasn't the most thrilling of careers, but at least she was killing off those who did wrong. Without the Soh couple, their slave trade would be exposed and the enslaved halflings would be freed.
Still, Arashi couldn't help but dream of adventures beyond Tian Xia.
Welcome to my latest Fanfic! This is probably just going to be a one shot, but I was bored, so I made a random D+D character and wrote about her. It's not very good, but I could've done worse.
