Polar Bears and Penguins

It was half past three int he morning when the shouting began in the fourth year boys dormitory in Gryffindor tower.

"REMUS! REMUS WAKE UP!"

The blankets were suddenly ripped from his body, as Remus struggled to shake the sleep from his mind. The pillow he had tried to hid under was also ripped violently from his hands before being thrown across the room.

It wasn't the first time, and Remus was most certain that it wouldn't be the last time. However, considering the time, he was a little irritated when responding to the two boys who were now situated at the end of his bed. James Potter and Sirius Black were not only two of his best friends, but they were the two people that seemed to get on his last nerve more than anyone else when it came to their crazy antics.

"What in the name of Merlin are you two going on about?" Remus asked grumpily while both boys began bouncing with anticipation.

"Consider this, our wise companion…" Sirius began with as much drama in his voice as he could muster. (Considering who he was, that's quite a bit of drama…)

James picked up the sentence as the pair began going back and forth telling of whatever it was that had them so excited.

"What if…"

"We took…"

"ALL of the polar bears…"

"And then just moved them…"

"Each and every one of them…"

"To the South Pole?"

Almost unable to believe what he was hearing, and completely irritated that he had been woken ups for such nonsense, Remus took a deep breath. As he tried to rub the sleep from his eyes, he carefully asks "…but what about the penguins?"

The two boys at the end of the bed instantly halted their bouncing and paused to consider the question they had been presented. "The penguins?" they asked, sounding puzzled.

"Yes, what about the penguins?"

Remus was rather surprised with his own random response to the seemingly random question he had previously been asked. Polar bears, really? Sirius and James both looked at each other for a moment, letting the question truly sink in while they contemplated an answer.

After a moment where Remus was almost able to doze back off, James leapt off the bed and excitedly proclaimed, "then we will pack up the penguins and move them to the NORTH Pole!"

Sirius follows his best friend up off the bed, nodding furiously. "Of course! What else would we possibly do with them?"

Before Remus could fully deduct if they were being completely genuine or sarcastic, a loud snore came from across the room. Peter Pettigrew, the fourth member of their little clan of Marauders, was completely oblivious to the happenings of the dormitory. Remus was not usually the jealous type, (especially when it came to Peter), but tonight he was extremely jealous of his friend's ability to sleep through anything.

Grabbing his blanket from the end of his bed where the other two had left it, Remus looked up and announced "I am going back to bed."

However, he was fairly certain that his proclamation had gone unheard. Both boys were now pacing back and forth across the dormitory, discussing the best way to capture and transport penguins.

Chuckling to himself as he curled back into his bed, Remus couldn't help but think that while those two boys wearing a hole in the floor of their dorm were absolutely insane, he was very lucky to have them in his life. He happily fell back asleep with a smile on his face when he hears Sirius mentioning using a cooling charm and the invisibility cloak as the best way to relocate penguins.
