What if Valjean never read the letter that Marius wrote to Cosette. What if he never went to the barricades to save. This is what I think would have happened. Please review and tell me what you think and let me know if you have any suggestions. Hope you enjoy:)
(based on the movie) Valjean watched the little boy exit and then shut the door behind him. He was curious. A "letter from the barricade" he said quietly. 'What could that mean". He knocked on Cosette's door trying not to open the letter and read it. "Come in" she said. Valjean saw that his daughter was upset. She looked very relaxed but he can see in her eyes she was sad and even a little angry. "I have a letter for you. It's from the barricade". She immediately lit up. "From the barricade, I'll take it". As Valjean exited, he became even more curious. What would be the reason as to why she would react like that?
"Marius" Cosette said under her breathe so Papa wouldn't hear. She was so excited to see what he wrote but yet she felt nervous as well. She ripped the note open and began to read.
Dearest Cosette,
you've entered my soul and soon you will be gone. Can it had only been days since we met and the world was reborn. If I should fall in the battle to come let this be my goodbye. Now that I know that you love me as well it is harder to die. I pray that God will bring me home to be with you. Pray for your Marius, he prays for you.
That night, while Papa was asleep, Cosette stared up at the celling. She could not sleep. She was exploring all her options. If she woke Papa now and told him about Marius, he would surely refuse and would not do one thing to help him. There was also no way she could sneak out without Papa knowing about. She also wasn't trained and knew nothing about how to use a gun. She would most likely die while trying to save Marius. She started to cry again. Marius is going to die and there is nothing she could do about it. Eventually, she cried herself to sleep.
