To die… would be an awfully big adventure.

Death was the beginning of a brand new adventure. That's what Luffy saw it as. Of course he didn't fear dying, why should he? It was just something that happened. Everything in the world eventually died, and he was no exception. He didn't want to be.

He wanted to die someday.

Standing at his brother's grave, he placed a bouquet of orange, red, and white flowers at the base of the monument along with a juicy piece of tender meat Luffy had picked up on his way over. Taking a seat, he smiled gently up at the orange hat gently moving in the sea-spray breeze and gave a quick breath. "I did it, Ace," said the older male. "I've been Pirate King for twenty-five years now. Shanks passed away last month, but I guess you already know that. Franky, Robin, and Brook are gone too…" He looked up at the blue sky, his voice laced with deep sorrow. "It's so different without them. I miss them all so much. I miss you too, Ace. Probably more than the others. You were always there when I needed you the most. I hope you're doing okay up there, not getting into too much trouble and stuff. I think Zoro or Sanji may be joining you guys up there soon. Both of them have been kind of sickly lately. Chopper's doing everything he can to keep them somewhat healthy…" He was met with silence, of course, but at the moment he felt like he needed a hug desperately. Not just a normal hug, but a comforting and loving one.

One only a brother could give.

Pulling his famous strawhat over his eyes, he silently cried to himself; allowing the quiet tears to roll down his cheeks without hesitation. He hadn't cried when he had received the news of Shanks and was letting out all his sorrow out here. Because he knew Ace wouldn't mind, he wouldn't call him a crybaby this time. "I really don't want to lose anymore nakama, Ace… Gramps is gone, Dadan's gone, Shanks, Franky, Robin, Brook… Even the Sunny met its demise last year…" A hard sob escaped his lips. "I can't lose Zoro and Sanji too. Not them." And a pair of strong arms wrapped themselves around Luffy, who looked up in surprise.

"Shh, it's okay," the quiet and familiar voice whispered in his ear, "–I understand how you feel. Your nakama are doing fine, and we want you to know that we're all looking over you and the others. Your friends will be fine, I know they will be. Just take care of yourself for once, okay? You're always making me worry…" A weak laugh escaped the pirate king's lips and he gave a nod.

"I will, Ace. I promise."

"Good. I'm so proud of you, Lu. We all are. Watching you fulfill your dream… I'm so proud to be your brother. Now go and live your life without regrets." And just like that, Ace was gone. And so were Luffy's tears.

He felt a rather big weight lift off his shoulders and he gave a quick breath. Standing up with his strawhat in his hands, he gave a grin. "I'll see you soon, Ace. And this time, I promise to bring a bigger piece of meat." The wind seemed to laugh in agreement and the whispers of all the people who cared for him rose from the grass, telling him to stand tall and to never look back. They told him to continue to live life to its fullest.
