Kate peeked into Castle's office, "Hey babe, do you want to see a movie this afternoon?"

"Sure, let me finish this presentation and I'll be ready in an hour or so." Castle gave his wife a brief glance before returning to the screen.

"Is this part II of the lecture you are working on?" Kate asked. "It's nice that they liked you so much, they asked you to make it a series."

Castle grinned, a note of pride covering his face. "It was more fun than I expected it to be. I can't wait to share with them the second part."

"What's the topic for this part?" Kate put her hands on Castle's back, massaging his shoulders as she looked at the screen.

"So many authors succumb to plot holes, I'm trying to help people learn how to catch them and avoid going down a storyline that doesn't make sense." Castle pointed his mouse at the screen and underlined the title.

"Give me an example," Kate loved hearing her husband's excitement as he discussed writing.

"For instance," Castle turned around, gathering Kate into his lap, "Remember when we were going after Bracken?"

Kate nodded, her arms reaching around Castle's neck.

"If someone were writing a book about us, but had us "fake break up" in order to keep me safe, that borders on a plot hole." Castle said.

Kate shook her head, "That's actually kind of nonsensical. What would be the author's motivation for that?"

"Maybe the author wanted to put a "spark" back in our marriage and thought a fake break up might be the way to do that," Castle pointed out.

"First of all," Kate put her hand on Castle's chest, "The spark never left our relationship. Second, Bracken would still come after you if he thought we were broken up, especially if we were married. He would also come after my dad, Ryan, Esposito, Lanie, Martha, and Alexis. The only real way to keep everyone safe; would be if Bracken thought I was dead."

"I think you just filled the plot hole," Castle said. "Rather than have us fake break up, you would need to fake your own death and then we would be working undercover together to take Bracken down. That is a much better solution. But unfortunately, writers sometimes get lazy in their writing and don't think their audience will notice the plot holes."

"That does make a lot more sense, but surely no writer would allow plot holes in hopes that the audience didn't notice?" Kate added.

"You would be surprised," Castle looked at his wife," Sometimes, if you don't fully think through a storyline, it just happens. Sometimes writers don't know how to fill plot holes and so they keep going. Also, on the rare occasion…writers are too prideful to change direction if something isn't working."

Kate bit her lip, "Castle?"

"What, honey?" Castle entangled his fingers with hers.

"I don't ever want our family and friends to think we've broken up, even if it's not real. That would be extremely mean. But also, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't buy it."

Castle grinned. "Don't worry, Kate, we would never do that to them. Besides, that would be a plot hole."
