Summary: Renji tries to learn the reason for Byakuya's rare smiles.

The first time he saw it he had to pinch himself to make sure he wasn't dreaming. The next time he saw it he was floored at how much its presence could change so much. Yet before his eyes the man he called his Captain, turned from a stoic, untouchable, ice prince, to a lovely, down right sexy man with a single smile. It was then Renji knew he had to discover its secret and learn how he could get that smile to return more often.
He had begun his observation early that month after witnessing the second smile. It didn't take long to learn that the task wasn't going to be as easy as Renji imagined it to be. Captain Kuchiki ended up being much more observant than expected. Yet it still came as a surprise when the older man finally confronted him about it one day at the office.
"How long do you plan to continue staring at me this time, Renji?" Byakuya asks, looking up and across from his immaculately clean desk top.
A slight blush breaks out across the younger shinigami's cheeks, and Renji stammers out an answer, "I wasn't, I mean I didn't mean to-"
He stops his response the moment he feels the overbearing spirit pressure coming from the raven haired man. He then realizes that he's not going to be let off easily for this and Byakuya's next words confirm it. "Don't lie to me Renji," the sixth division captain warns him with a dark edge to his voice, "I know you have recently begun to habitually stare at me whenever you get the chance. I want to know why."
Renji decides to go with a half truth and answers, "I don't mean to stare, but you caught me off guard a couple of weeks ago, you know, with that smile. And you told me to pay more attention to what I was doing when I dropped the ink well because of it. So I've just paying attention like you said."
Byakuya raises an elegant eyebrow and asks, "Then are you saying I'm something that you 'are doing'?"
Renji's blush turns deep red and expands to cover his face and neck. "No! That's not it all! I meant I didn't want to be taken by surprise again when you're looking that hot. And I just-," Renji's rant dies off quickly and he quickly squeaks out before racing out of the office, "I gotta go do something now, bye."
As Renji disappears from view, Byakuya smiles and chuckles to himself. He knows it's cruel to tease the younger man like that, but he can't seem to help himself at times. He decides to compensate Renji with something later on, since it is those blushes that are the secrets to his smile.
