Skitter, skitter, skitter...

Sora heard something running across his kitchen floor...almost like something with claws was running a race in there. Thing is, Sora didn't have a dog or a cat, his parents had never even trusted him with the goldfish that he won at the school's Halloween Carnival when he was a teenager.

'Did Riku's dog find his way in the house?' Sora thought as he made his way to the kitchen... The skittering sounds stopped as soon as he walked in and the lights got switched on. Sweeping his cobalt blue eyes over the kitchens counter tops...thinking maybe the neighbors cat may have gotten inside through the doggydoor that he had installed so when Riku came over, his Great Dane puppy, aptly named Scooby, for his brown and black coloring, could get inside without having to scratch and whine at the door. He knew it wasn't Scooby because Riku wasn't here, and Riku lived about three blocks down and Scooby wasn't that bright of a dog to find his house on his own...

A loud rustling was heard coming from inside the pantry. Sora looked around, slightly confused. How could something get into the pantry? The door was closed, and it's not very easy to open either. He made to open the door, but something stopped him.

"Ow! Damnit!" Sora yelled, jerking his hand off of the handle. The door handle was so cold, it felt like it was going to burn him if he left his hand on it for longer than he had. Narrowing his eyes, he grabbed an oven mitt from the counter top and jammed his hand into it. He roughly wrenched the door to the pantry open and saw...

Nothing.

Not a damn thing.

Everything inside was as he had left it. Sora looked around, scouring the immediate area for any signs that something, or someone had been inside. As he turned to walk out the door, he heard the rustling sound once more...

Sora snapped around, glaring at whatever had dared to enter his domain. The sounds was heard again, coming from near the floor. He looked down, expecting to find some deadly creature or something even worse.

His eyes locked onto the culprit, and the small gray mouse ran away squeaking into its hole in a corner of the pantry.

After Sora shut the door and walked off, cursing himself for being paranoid...on a top shelf in the pantry, a pair of bright golden eyes opened up and a pitch black creature silently, and gracefully, leapt down from the top shelf to the floor, and seemed to melt into the floor when it hit.
