Taking place in the premiere of season four: "20 Hours in America".
Josh trudges up the stairs to board the plane that will take him, Toby, and Donna back to D.C. Donna, who is walking in front of him, appears to be having a hard time. She stumbles a little every other step, and Josh places a hand on Donna's side to steady her.
"Sorry, I'm just really tired," she says as she turns around, giving Josh a smile of appreciation, who then nods in return. Josh looks around once they board the plane and notices how small it is compared to the one they were supposed to board with the President. This plane had three blue seats lining each side of the aisle. They file into their chairs with the order in which they'd been walking. Donna at the window, Josh in the middle, and Toby at the aisle seat. Josh and Toby take the ten minutes before takeoff to continue their argument about something political.
"This is your captain speaking, please fasten your seatbelts and flight attendants please prepare for takeoff."
Their conversation had paused for the announcement, and when Josh looked back over at Toby, he had already put in earplugs and closed his eyes. Toby does not like flying in small commercial airplanes, so he completely shuts himself out of the world for the entirety of the flight. Josh moved his gaze to Donna...
Beautiful Donna...
Stop that, she is your employee.
She looks so adorable swimming in that too big University of Indiana sweatshirt...
Everyone has a different response to stress. Some people stress eat or sleep, but Donna Moss stress cries. Not in a childlike way, but as her natural coping mechanism. After making sure Toby and Josh were both sleeping, she let loose, silently sobbing thousands of feet in the air. It had been an intense day, what with the campaign and missing their original flight. All of her worries pored out with each tear.
Josh was awoken by a jerky movement next to him. Looking over to investigate, he saw Donna curled over crying very quietly. He put his hand on her back and rubbed it very gently. Her shaking subsided and Josh pulled her upright exposing her tear stained face.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you," she says in a high voice.
Josh can't stand seeing Donna upset, it's like he is failing her in some way. He pulls Donna next to him and wraps his arms around her. Even though he didn't use words he had just consoled Donna better than anyone ever. Josh'a touch, whose touch she's been dreaming about for so long, feels warm and natural. As she rests her head on his shoulder, he leans down to kiss the top of her head. This sends a shiver down Donna's spine that makes her toes curl inside her shoes. Josh smiles as he realizes how big of an effect he has on her. After Donna collects herself, she leans upright and looks at Josh.
"I'm really sorry about that," Donna says. "It was very unproffesional of me to..." She trails off when she sees how intently Josh is staring at her.
"It's ok."
And they both fell back asleep in each other's arms.
THE END! :)
