Lost on Cloud 9

"Damn it, Leo, I'm sick of this!"

"Look, honey, I am sorry. You know that I have no choice in this. How many times do I have to explain myself?"

I sighed, "You don't. I just.... I'm just frustrated. That's all. I mean we've just had a baby and I feel like I'm basically taking care of him all by myself."

I sat down on our bed, massaging the bridge of my nose. Leo sat down next to me with an arm slung across my shouders apologetically.

"I'm so sorry, Piper," he whispered slowly, "I'll think of something. There's always a way, and we'll find it."

"Yeah, yeah. Go. Your charges need you," I whined sarcastically.

He sighed and after kissing my cheek evaporated in a web of white lights. This is what I get for marrying a whitelighter. Wyatt's cries released me from my thoughts and I stood with a stretch. In his room he was lying on his back gurgling up at me as soon as I entered.

"Hey, little man. Daddy just left. Remember him?" He giggled in response as I picked him up gently. It was always as if he knew more than he was letting on. He probobaly did. He probobaly knew all of the secrets of the world and just laughed as we all ran around in circles like crazy people. Holding him in the crook of my arm I simply admired his innocent beauty. His blonde hair was brimming the edge of his forehead and his blue eyes were filled with a magical mystery. He looked so much like Leo. Little whines indicated he needed something else aside from my adoration and after a diaper change I carried my child down the stairs with me into the kitchen.

"I really don't kn--" Phoebe stopped midsentence, "hiya Piper! Hello my sweet little nephew." She grabbed Wyatt excitedly and hugged and kissed him as if she hadn't just seen him last night.

"I would really appreciate you not smothering my child thank you," I said, preparing myself a cup of caffeine.

"You are just the most precious human being in the whole wide world aren't you," Phoebe said in her baby voice.

"Either you need a man, Pheebs, or, " Paige stopped and took a sip of coffee, pondering, "nah, you just need a man."

"Hmph," Phoebe replied without tearing her eyes from Wyatt, "Well, I'm off to work anyway. Where would San Fransisco be without my wisdom and guidance?"

"Oh, yea, brag cuz you're employed," Paige muttered. I shook my head with a grin as I stirred my coffee hypnotically.

"Does that mean I get my child back?"

"Nope," said Paige smiling as she lifted Wyatt out of her sister's arms.

"Hey, Paige," Phoebe said as she shuffled about the kitchen searching for her keys, "call me today and we can talk about that thing."

"What thing?" I asked strictly. There was no answer, "as your oldest sister I proclaim the right to be nosy and pertrusive."

"Oh, honey, its just some work thing," Phoebe answered with an obnoxiously huge grin.

"Uh huh... yea I really don't believe you. I've known you all your life and you've always been a sucky liar."

Wyatt suddenly started crying and I looked over at him in Paige's arms who held him out to me as was often done when the cute little baby starting howling.

"Well, I'm gonna go. Bye guys!" Phoebe hurried out the door.

"Saved by the baby," I groaned.

Paige stood and clasped her hands together, "don't worry sweetie, its nothing bad. Its just... its nothing bad."

I watched as she left the room and headed upstairs to do God knows what.
