I'm so confused.

She slowly drums her fingers on the desk. Each individual one at a time, each beat bringing back memories. Whenever it has come to the matters of her heart, she has always held back.

She's Commander Shepard. That's how she'll always be.

Well, maybe not at the moment since I'm stuck in this "cell".

But no one could really see her as anything else. She's known this for years, and it now has become a barrier separating her from the rest of the world. She has friends. Best friends especially. But love? Even the other species know that love is fickle among humans. So why get into that mess?

Growing up and maturing, everyone says that she became more beautiful by the year. She's had her come and go of boyfriends, but none of them made a huge impact. She felt like… felt like… like she was born for a purpose.

So why bother getting close to anyone anyways?

She just can't see anyone wanting to spend the rest of his life with her anyways. She knows she's a great person, but she also knows that she gives off the aura of being independent. But it would be nice to be in someone's arms…

NO. Don't go down that dark road. Stay focused. You have priority, you have lives to save. Just go with the flow.

She chuckles, as she remembers that a old crush used to repeat it often to her. With a smile, she looks up, stands up, exhales a deep breath and hears the door behind her open.

"Commander? Admiral Anderson says that the Admiralty Board wants to see you."

"I told you Vega, you're not supposed to call me that."
