Prologue

Silver Lake, Texas, June 30, 17 Years Ago

The hospital waiting room had only two people that night. One a Texas Ranger

Who had just lost his wife of thirty years, to a massive stroke. The other person was a nervous

Young man who had recently settled into the 9 to 5 routine and was obviously worried about

His wife and the birth of their first child. He paced the floor and questioned every nurse that

Passed by. Lou chuckled. He had seen the same act when his son-in-law went through the same

Thing six months ago. 'Maybe I should try to calm him down,' he thought. 'It'd take my mind

Off...other things.'

"Son, there's nothing to worry about. The doctors here know what they're doing."

He approached the young man and continued in a calm, steady voice. "If it helps you any, I was

Here six months ago when my grandson Cordell was born, so they've had plenty of practice."

The young man wiped his forehead and nervously answered, "I know this goes on

Every day, but still, I've never gone through anything like this! Why is it taking so long? What if

Something happens?"

Lou put his hand on the younger mans shoulder and said to him, "Son, anybody can see

You're in love with your wife and care about her well being. I'm here for the same reason, my wife.

I trust in the Good Lord to do what He has planned."

His talk had a calming effect on the young man. Both men sat quietly until a nurse came

Out to talk to the younger of the two.

"Mr. Morgendorffer? Congratulations, you have a brand new baby girl. Mother and daughter

are doing fine. We'll be back to bring you in soon."

"There you go son, you've got yourself a brand new angel. I told you there was nothing to

worry about."

"Wow! This is great! I'm a father!" Turning to the older man, he invited him to meet his wife

and new daughter. Lou accepted, and when the nurse gave the okay to go in, both men quietly entered

the room where Helen was cradling the sleeping newborn. After introductions, Lou asked, "And the

little Angels name?"

Helen smiled and quietly said, " Daria."
