Author's Notes: I wanted to post this before going into a ridiculously long hiatus. It's somewhat different from how I usually write, but I hope you still like it.

It had somehow become a habit of his to lie when it came to his love life.

The first person to ask was his father.

"So do you have a girlfriend yet?" He had asked with a suggestive grin.

Yamamoto only smiled, "No, but I have someone in mind."

The next had been a girl from his class.

"Y-Yamamoto-san…is there someone you like?" She had asked timidly.

His lips curled into a smile that was too much like his usual ones for her to realize it was fake and, although oblivious to her real intentions, still lied. "Sasagawa Kyoko."

It had been a while until someone asked again.

"Say, Yamamoto, who was your first crush?" Tsuna had asked with genuine and innocent curiosity after admitting his infatuation with Kyoko, and even though they were best friends, the baseball-lover couldn't tell the truth.

Instead, he rubbed the back of his neck and smiled sheepishly. "Sasagawa's best friend, back in elementary school."

The Tenth's eyes had widened dangerously with incredulity, making Yamamoto a little worried since they looked like they would pop out at any moment. His worries went away when they returned to their original size, though his guilt did not fade.

"I see." Tsuna said, smiling in relief at knowing that his best friend knew how he felt.

Not long after, Gokudera was added to the list.

"Have you ever been in love?" The Storm Guardian had asked him in a rare serious moment.

Yamamoto didn't miss a beat, "Yep, with Miura."

That made Gokudera's solemn mood dissipate in a blink as he started yelling surprised profanities, making the Rain Guardian amazed at his colorful vocabulary. After a while he calmed down and smirked mockingly.

"I guess idiots attract other idiots."

The baseball-lover was no surprised when his brunette friend asked.

"Yamamoto-san, Haru has been wondering if you were in love." The way she asked did make him rise his eyebrows.

"What makes you think that?"

She only smiled and looked up at the sky. "Because you always have a content far-off expression when you think no one is looking."

This time, Yamamoto's smile was genuine, although the lie did not fail to leave his lips smoothly. "I'm in love…"

Haru beamed.

"…with Squalo."

"H-hahi?"

When Chrome commented on it, however, he was stunned.

"You have someone special, don't you?" She had asked in her usual quiet voice, sounding almost as if she was talking to herself even if her big amethyst eye was on him.

He replied smartly. "Huh?"

The Mist Guardian only tightened her grip on the trident and continued with a meek and insecure tone. "Mukuro-sama wishes you luck."

The swordsman had been expecting the baby to ask.

"You like him." It wasn't even a question.

"I do." There was no need of lying this time.

"Do you know what you're getting yourself into?" Reborn's tone was indifferent, though a spark of curiosity was seen in his big black eyes.

"I do." He repeated because, really, he did. It didn't mean it wasn't worth it, though.

This time, however, was Yamamoto's turn to ask.

"Hey, do you love me?"

Hibari's glare could melt icebergs. He took out his tonfas at the stupid question asked by the stupid guardian and sneered at him. "Of course not."

Yamamoto may be a liar when it came to his love life, but Hibari was too.

Mukuro knew who Yamamoto liked so he wished him good luck, haha.
