Title: Last Regrets
Author: Sara Jaye
Warnings: Spoilers, character death

Small fic I wrote inspired by Alvis and Yuria's convo.

The end was near.

So many regrets, and I can't even say I'm sorry...

He'd ruined many lives, taken the life of the man he'd once been on good terms with. Hurt everyone in that army. Their children. Countless others. All for the sake of a woman he'd lost in the end anyway.

Everyone he loved seemed to slip away...

Diadora.

He couldn't have stopped Yuris even if he'd tried. Diadora had given her life to save their daughter's.

Yuria.

His daughter's return was a small comfort to him; she was just like her mother in many ways. Beautiful, gentle, forgiving...she knew what he'd done, and she still saw him as kind and warm. If only he could have a little more time with her.

Azel.

His brother. He'd kept him from his family until the end of his life, and with his dying breath Azel had forgiven him.

"I always thought you were kind and warm, Alvis. You've meant more than my own father to me even if we didn't always get along."

Azel meant everything to Alvis, and Alvis let him slip away. All he had left was his son.

Yurius.

If it weren't for Manfroy, might Yurius have become a better man? Would that be possible even with the full Loptous blood?

Of course, this wouldn't have happened if Manfroy hadn't brought Diadora to him in the first place...but did he really want to imagine life without her, the love of his life?

Maybe if they'd met under different circumstances...if Manfroy hadn't gotten involved.

That bastard...how could I let him use me for all those years?

By the time Alvis realized what Manfroy had been doing, it was too late.

He was older, almost feeble and barely able to wield the sacred Falaflame. It was suicide for him to be here right now.

I am born of crusader linage. If I am to die, let me go down fighting.

The blue-haired figure on horseback slowly approached. For a moment Alvis could swear it was Sigurd, coming for his revenge.

"So you're the man who killed my father."

Alvis hardened his gaze.

"Lord Celice. I've been waiting for you."

"In the name of Lord Sigurd of Chalphy, I'll bring you down!"

This is my fate.

He caught a brief glimpse of his reflection in the Tyrfing's surface, and closed his eyes.

I'm sorry...if only things could have been different...

Darkness embraced him.
