Paradise Found

Leo woke to the feeling of soft sheets, warm sun, and the stabbing pain of a hundred aching muscles.

Never had he been in such physical pain. Not even after he fell off the climbing wall at camp. This was something completely new to him: immense pain. Why? He did not know.

Leo remembered something about breaking your femur bone being the worst pain a human could endure. That and childbirth. Well that's one option I can eliminate.

He slowly took a deep breath, and right a he inhaled, a shard of glass seemed to puncture his abdomen. He winced and sucked in a deep breath. Something was definitely wrong there.

He tried to open his eyes, only to be blinded by sunlight, and attempted to sit up.

The sudden movement brought a wave of throbbing into his mind.

"Agh, my head" he groaned. His eyes began to adjust and he found himself sitting on the world's comfiest bed in a kaleidoscope cavern. The sunlight streamed in through a curtain at the front and bounced off the crystals above him creating the most beautiful lights he ad ever seen. "What the...," she muttered as he surveyed the room. His eyes rested on a figure sitting on the edge of his bed, "Whoa."

Leo was swept off his feet. She seemed to be about his age, but he wasn't sure. Her face was just ageless. Long caramel hair was braided and rested on her right shoulder with a golden circlet around her hairline. She wore a white chiton adorned with golden clips on the shoulders and a band around her waist. She was nimble and small, but she didn't seem weak.

Her eyes were wide with concern and brows were furrowed with worry. Leo became mesmerized by their almond color. They were beautiful and bright and trained right on him. No girls eyes ever were. At least... not like that.

Leo began to feel self conscious. He was wearing his muddy boots and greasy pants and white shirt, no doubt torn and smelly from working in hot messy placed. His suspenders were all out of wack and falling off of his shoulder. He couldn't see but his hair was probably its usual, tangled mess, and his face probably had a healthy coating of grime; however, it that was a problem, the girl didn't let on.

She placed a hand on his stomach and another on his cheek tenderly. His heart raced. This was all new to him. He was flustered and out of breath. Was it possible he was dead?

She spoke to him. Her voice sounded like water running across stones, clear and lovely, "Are you all right?"

Leo's stared at her amazed, "That's it. I died."
