A Horrible Dream

It's an AU where titans have come to an extinction. This fic is not about titans, it's about a horrible dream. My writing might not be good, I am just a beginner writer. I had this idea a while back but my friend helped me with the writing.

He awoke with a start.

Beads of perspiration dotted his temples and slid down his cheeks after the horrible nightmare he'd just had.

He swung his feet over the edge of the bed and sat, glaring through the windows. The curtains had been left drawn and he could make out the orange hue of the sun rising in the east. It glow touched every crevice of the land.

Levi Ackerman expelled an audible breath.

It was almost the time to go to work, but he couldn't get

the horrible dream out of his mind.

He glanced over his shoulders at his wife and was glad he hadn't roused her. He rose to his feet and crept across the hall into his son's room.

He was still asleep. It warmed Levi to see the toddler so profoundly wrapped in slumber.

So peaceful.

So... Alive.

His mind drifted back to the dream he'd had. Fear like he'd never known came over him. For a moment he just knelt there, smoothing his hands over his son's hair. He needed to feel him. To assure himself that he really there. That he was real. That this wasn't all a dream he'd walked right out of a nightmare into.

There'd been a breach in the wall and an army of abnormal Titans swarmed them. He and Hange had been fending off a particularly nasty one when it happened. Bricks and rubble burst from the walls, cracking skulls and crushing the bones of scouts who'd been nearby.

One by one the abnormals poured in.

They ripped limps from bodies and splattered the blood of humans onto the ground with every gnash of their teeth.

First they took Hange away from him. Ripped her head off between its jaws and swallowed the rest of her whole. It was like pulling off a bottle cap and downing its contents.

They moved into districts, squatting scouts like flies and devouring those who couldn't defend themselves.

His son…

His precious boy.

Levi pushed the gruesome image aside and almost choked on a sob. Though the Titans had been extinct for many years now, the mere thought of being in a position where he couldn't protect his family brought him intense dread

He leaned over and kissed his son's forehead, unmindful of the trickle of tear that leaked from his eyes and onto the child's porcelain face.

He stirred in his sleep and mumbled something unintelligible. Levi thought it best not to linger longer or he'd wake him, so he returned to his bedroom.

He slid between his comforter and wrapped his arms around Hange's waist. Across the room his closet door lay opened. In the place of ODM gears and titan-fighting-equipments were fancy clothes and shoes and luxury not afforded to them when humanity was on the brink of extinction.

He still kept a few of his blades around though, and he never got rid of Scout's uniform. Once a soldier, always a soldier, and soldiers stood by their vows.

He made the most important one when he married Hange and begun his family.

To love and protect.

And he promised to do that no matter what.
