This was a request fic for mikanhime on LJ. I personally like how it came out, despite the certainly uncommon pairing. Hope you enjoy!

They stood before each other, weapons at the ready, and all the times before -- times spent in the past and in the dark -- flashed through their eyes, blue and blue. But then it was gone, and they clashed in a different kind of dance, because here they were enemies and technically, they'd agreed, those times never happened.

As close as they'd gotten before, it was simply out of a mutual need, a mutual frustration that brought them together time and time again, secretly, darkly. Their attraction to each other was their mutual pain; they both knew what it was like to lose a friend, a partner. A lover. Those times, they clashed in the dark, lips, teeth and tongues their weapons as they carved out each other's sorrows and remembered what it was like to live.

They'd come together and part ways and neither knew when they'd see each other again. Then the pain would grow until it was too much again and somehow, they'd always find each other. It was all a temporary solution, a salve of touch and feel and heat to smother their never-healing wounds until they were ready to move on. But nobody could replace those they lost, one never coming back (Danna...), the other just out of reach (Teme...), so they kept on, night after night.

As their weapons clashed again, the younger blond suddenly cracked a smile, the older backing off swiftly and judging him crucially. He didn't expect the boy to say what he did, and for another second, the past flashed between them both, then shattered.

I found him...

And just like that, it was over, and Deidara couldn't help but mimic the boy's smile.

He knew then that Naruto had come to be his mercy angel once again, here to take his pain away for the last time he'd ever need.

Like it or hate it, I really would like to know! Reviews are, after all, like birthday cake and kittens.
