they're fighting again (what a surprise)
him with his whiskey, her with her wine
they're just talking now, but it's rather loud
(you can hear them although you're outside)
davey, with his horrible temper
and his boldness and braveness (is that
what it's called? it seems more like anger),
his insistence to always be right
mary, with her soft blue eyes tearing up
because grief is tearing at her gut
because abe is gone, marlene, caradoc
but worst of all, davey's vanished too
he's right there, with his lit cigarette
raising his voice, louder and louder
but he's not the brave boy she knew before
he's a devil, a demon, a brute
she knows he's trying to protect her
but his efforts, she knows, are no good
her friends are dead, and his monsters inside
are surely not worse than their killers
