Hello! This is my first fic ever, so I am really nervous about posting it! Please review, and feel free to correct any mistakes. I will try my hardest not to make any. :) Enjoy!
Dís knew as soon as her two boys set eyes on their new little sister, that they would be the best brothers the world could offer. They had an instinct within them that urged them to protect. They got it from Thorin, she was certain. Barynn, her husband, had never had any siblings, and though he was a wonderful father and husband, he didn't have the experience of that bond between brothers and sisters.
"Fili, Kili? When Brynn gets older, you two will have to look after her. Do you understand?" Dís asked, looking very seriously at her sons.
"Don't worry, mama. We will." Fili said, tearing his eyes from baby Brynn to promise his mother with his eyes.
The days went by and more people came to see the new baby. They all gushed at her dark hair and light blue eyes, also remarking about how much she looked like Fili and Kili! Thorin kept a watchful eye on the visits and how long they took. The birth had been difficult, as Brynn was early, and it had taken a toll on both daughter and mother. Dis knew that Brynn would need to be strong willed when she grew to be able to live under the protectiveness of her brothers and uncle.
Years soon passed, and by the time Brynn was four she was begging Fili and Kili to teach her how to use weapons. How could they resist those big, blue pleading eyes? So they complied, and to their surprise, she took to them over a matter of weeks. She wasn't going to be killing orcs any time soon, but it was a start to the training she would receive from Dwalin and Thorin later on.
Brynn was a Durin through and through, and though she was missing a father she never lacked in love or care. With two big brothers, a mother, and uncle, and all their friends, she was raised well.
Brynn was exactly like Fili and Kili. Which wasn't a very good thing, as the effect of the pranks they played on people was tripled. The trio, as people liked to call them to not have to say all their names, was respectful, responsible, but terribly mischievous. It wasn't rare for them to string up a bucket over someone's head for when they walked in the door or something else along those lines. But they were close as could be, and Dis wouldn't change anything about their relationship.
But when Brynn was ten, she started getting into fights. Despite letting the refuges of Erebor stay in the mountain, the dwarves of the Blue Mountain were not as welcoming as they should have been. They looked down upon the dwarves that had been displaced by a dragon, and ridiculed them often. Most of the fights Brynn got in were because she was protecting the smaller children, but others were for reasons she wouldn't tell her family, and that concerned them. They didn't keep much from each other, so they knew whatever reasons Brynn had for fighting were more than just petty quarrels. And yet, they couldn't seem to pry the information out of her.
Good? Yes, no? I guess I will have to wait and see! I won't post another chapter until I get a review. :) Have a great day!
