Why did he look so familiar?

This man that had walked into my coffee shop, whom she was convinced she had never met before, looked like a long lost friend. The man came to the front and ordered a coffee. He was a bit strange: great hair, bow tie, suspenders, tweed jacket, and no eyebrows - he came off as a rather attractive man who walked into an old man's wardrobe.

He turned to face the counter and stopped short when he saw my face. By the sad but delighted look on his face, I could tell he knew me too.

"Hello." he said, rather pensively.

"Um, hey." I replied. Did I know him from my days of working as a temp? He didn't look like an office boy...

"Well," I said after a few moments of silence. "What can I getcha?" He ordered a simple black coffee. I walked to the counter to prepare it, expecting him to be like the others who just sat there as I made it, but he actually talked to me.

"This isn't your first line of work, is it?" He asked me.

"Nah. Used to be a temp." I told him.

"Ah. Lovely. Why'd you quit?"

"Well..." I put down the coffee pot. I'd never told anyone this, but I felt I could trust him. "One day, I woke up, and it was four months later than when I had fallen asleep. For some reason, I decided that that was a good opportunity to really think about what I wanted in life. It came to me that I didn't like being a temp. I hated it. I realized that what I loved was baking." I laughed. "And I built the glory that now surrounds you." The man smiled at me sadly.

"That's lovely." He said. "And do you like your life now?"

"I love it. " I smiled. "Honestly, that decision saved my life." The man ducked his head, clearly trying to hold back tears. To my surprise, I felt a few trailing down my face as well.

"I'm sorry." I said to the man. "I don't know why I'm crying."

"Quite right too." The man said with one more sad smile. "Well, goodbye then." With that he turned on his heel, and I watched the complete stranger whom I was sure I knew walk away.

The Doctor turned his face towards the sky, letting the rain dry his impending tears. He took a sip out of his rather good coffee, and turned to the sky again. To no one in particular he whispered two of the most bittersweet sentences he had ever said in his life.

"Donna Noble has left the TARDIS. Donna Noble has been saved."
