The rare moments when Barry slept in the middle of the day were like small gifts from Arceus to Dawn. Everyday Barry was up and running around, training pokemon and eating every piece of food in their small shared apartment in Hearthome City. He had only recently begun training under his father to take over the title of Tower Tycoon, and Dawn noticed how much slower he'd become since. He still ate like a Munchlax, and talked too many miles a second, but didn't run as much. He paused, and that was something Dawn had never counted on.

For once in his life, for possibly the very first time, Barry was tired. And it finally caught up to him.

Dawn had to giggle to herself at the sight. The boy sprawled out across their sofa like a Staryu, arms and legs splayed wherever they pleased. Barry's mouth hung open as big snores poured from his throat. His ever-growing hair clung to the arm of the sofa for dear life, and some of the blond locks curled at odd angles that seemed to purposefully aim for his nose.

He looked so peaceful. For Barry, that is.

Suddenly he shifted so he curled into the back of the couch, and he brought up his legs to his chest, making room for his new Shinx to find a home behind his knees. Dawn found herself a spot beside Barry as well, and her finger tips found a spot in his hair. Barry's hair had always tempted Dawn ever since they were children, his locks always doing as they pleased and flying in such odd directions. It had so much potential, and Dawn wanted to run with that. She ran her hands through the shaggy hair, digging her long nails into his scalp and scratching lightly. Barry subconsciously pushed back to allow more access to his head, huffing in his sleep.

Soon Dawn started to add little braids and tight twirls. She pinned back Barry's bangs with a few bobby pins that laid on the floor and sectioned off the sides of his hair so she could work through the tangles one at a time. It seemed like hours past with Dawn just playing with Barry's hair, and she knew there was much more she should have been doing, but this seemed justified simply because Barry didn't get tired. He deserved a little pampering every now and then.

Perhaps if she knew Barry had woken up when Shinx crawled up beside him she wouldn't have been so kind, but since she didn't know, Dawn placed a chaste kiss to Barry's cheek before getting up to start fixing lunch.

Completely self-indulgent short piece.
