A young quail sat on his futon, restlessly. A picture in his hands, tears pouring down his face. What time was it? How long had he been up? He wiped his tears from his eyes, and gazed towards the clock. "Aaaah... I'm late for work!"

"That mongrel! Who does he think he is? Where is he?"

"Coo? (Where is Nanaki?)"

10 minutes went by, and then 20. Time went on, no Nanaki in sight.

"Cooo. Coooooo! (Forget Nanaki. Okosan must go run!)"

"I'm going to the library!"

The human and a fantail stood up, and began walking towards the door.

"W-wait guys! What if he shows up?"

"Ryouta, he's already 20 minutes late. I'll just go study in the library."

"B-but!"

"Seeya later!"
The two walked out, and the class sat in silence for a few minutes, only to be interrupted by the quail.

"Aaahh... I'm here! Sorry I'm late. I... over... slept...zzzzzz"

"Nanaki, you fool! Wake up, you're already late!"

"...and then he said he fell asleep in the washing machine! It's unbelievable!" Hiyoko noticed Nageki staring intently at her, and not a book. She gave a small blush, as she was unused to getting his full attention.

"I must say, you do have quite an… interesting teacher. He sounds rather smart, it almost reminds me of…" Nageki stopped mid-sentence, beginning to shiver. A tear formed in his eye.

"Nageki?! Are you okay?" Hiyoko closed the distance between the two, giving him a hug.

"...I'm sorry, Miss Tosaka. I don't know what came over me. It's almost as if… there's something I need to remember…"

"It's okay. I'm here for you." Hiyoko tightened her hug, and Nageki reached around her too. The young couple sat in silence, just enjoying the warmth of each other. "Say, Nageki?"

"...hm?"

"I love you."

"I love you too, Miss Tosaka."

"It's September 1st, Nanaki! It's been months and you continue to show up late and sleep during class! Does Japan seriously treat their education as this much as a joke? Why even bother coming!?" Back in Room 2-3, Sakuya was tearing into Nanaki. Who could blame him?

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!" Suddenly, Nanaki started staring off into space. Sakuya waved his wing in front of him, attempting to snap him out of it.

"You fool! You mongrel! I'm speaking to you!"

"Why do you have to kill me? Come on, please… This isn't right…!"

I sound like him. Kazuaki-kun… I looked down, my wings stained with blood. I killed him. Nobody knows. They all think I'm him… they think I'm dead. Another voice chimes into my head, one I'm all too familiar with. It's Nageki.

"Hitori… You killed me. This is your fault. If you hadn't sent me here… I'd still be alive. It's all because of you. You killed me."

"N-Nakaki! Are you… crying? You fool!"

"I'm sorry, Shirogane. I don't know what came over me." He wiped his tears, and sighed. "Kawara, where are Hiyoko and San?"
"San is outside running, and Hiyoko's in the library, talking to her boyfriend." Ryouta muttered the last part, clearly upset. Sakuya turned towards Ryouta, surprised.

"Kawara, did you say boyfriend?"

"Yeah, she's been seeing some freshman in the library for a couple of months now. She hasn't stopped talking about him. It's all Nageki this, Nageki that. Aaagh!" Ryouta let out a noise of annoyance.

"N...Nageki...?" Nanaki heard it all. Could it be… was he still alive? Did he still remain in this school? Perhaps he was still… down there... "I'll find you. I'm coming, Nageki."

It was the morning of the 2nd. Hiyoko was in the library with Nageki before school. "I have to go to class today Nageki, but I'm really glad I could spend some time with you today! I'll drop by after school though, alright?"

"...Alright. I'll be here." He chuckled to himself, but a small tear slid down his face. Hiyoko did not yet know he couldn't leave. Oh, how he longed to go out and see the world with her. Instead, he was trapped here. Nobody talked to him except her… nobody could even see him…

His thoughts were interrupted with a quick kiss. Their first kiss.

"Ouch... beak..." She let out a chuckle.

"...Thank you, miss Tosaka. That was nice." Nageki got up, and disappeared into the bookshelves.

Nanaki knew something was coming. He could feel it. In fact, he got a good night's sleep that night. He could just tell that tomorrow was going to be important. For the first time in 5 years, he felt refreshed. The date was now September 3rd.

"Kawara, do you have a minute?"
