NOTES:  I was actually going to make this Chapter 24 of my story Cradle My Heart, but decided against it.  So I made it a vignette.  You'll have no problem following it.  It is a stand-alone.

Rogue was curled up in a chair in the sunroom watching the rain cascade down the glass.  She shivered and pulled her terry cloth robe tighter around her shoulders.  She sensed him enter, but didn't turn his way as he came to stand beside her chair.  As he stared out into the dark, Rogue squeezed her eyes shut and murmured, "We have a problem."

"I know," Logan said.  "Xavier's told me."

Rogue slowly shook her head.  "No.  I don't mean that."  She sighed in distress and tears pooled from her eyes.  Things were so tense and awkward between them that she didn't know how to express her worries.  So she went for the blunt approach: "I'm pregnant, Logan," she whispered, her voice quivering.  "I'm sorry," she cried.  "I'm so sorry, Logan."

"Holy shit," he groaned, rubbing a hand over his face.  He was floored by her news.  Damn, doesn't surprise me that the one night we're together she gets pregnant.  Then the rest of what she said caught up with him and he crouched down in front of her chair, caressing the tears off her face.  "Don't apologize, Marie."  He closed his eyes and groaned again.  Why is this happening?

"I wanted a baby so badly," she sobbed.  "But not like this.  Not now.  And I know you don't want it at all.  You must be so angry."

"I am."  He winced.  Wrong choice of words, bub.  "But not at you.  You didn't do anything wrong."

"Yes I did," she wailed, burying her face in Logan's hands.  "I slept with you!"

Ouch, kid, that's a bit harsh.  "We can't change it, Rogue.  But we can do something about it."

"Abortion isn't an option," she defended.

"I wasn't implying anything," he said soothingly.

She gazed at him through her salty tears.  "I'm keeping it."

"Are you sure that's best?"

"This is my baby, Logan!  I'm going to raise my own child."

"Who else knows?"

"Doctor McCoy.  He did the blood work for me."

"How long ago?"

Rogue bowed her head away from him in shame.  "I was so scared to tell you.  I was terrified you'd leave."

"How.  Long."

"Two months."

Logan swayed on his feet.  "You knew for two months that you were pregnant and you didn't say anything to me!"  He leapt up and stormed around the room.  "I can't fucking believe this," he growled, slamming his fist into the wall, his arm crashed in up to his elbow.

Rogue flinched.  She'd never really been frightened of him before, but fear now boiled in the pit of her stomach.  "Logan," she whispered.  "Please, calm down.  You're scaring me."

He whipped around, his eyes hard and his veins straining.  "That's the least of my problems right now, kid!"

Rogue shrank back.  He had seemed so supportive just moments ago, but now his fury was in the reigns.  She didn't want to be the one in the way of his wrath.  She cautiously got up from the chair and backed away.  "I'm sorry, Logan.  But it isn't entirely my fault."

"I know that, damn it," he roared.  "I know it was our mistake, but that doesn't make the situation any better!"  He took a deep breath and slowly released it, allowing the stress to flow out.  He shifted his weight and sighed.  "I'm sorry, Marie.  I'm sorry."

Rogue hesitantly approached him, coming to stand directly under him.  "It's ok.  I understand."  She wrapped her arms around his waist and was relieved when he finally embraced her in return.  "You don't have to help me.  I can do it on my own."

Logan rested his chin on the top of her head and inhaled her sweet scent.  "No, Marie, you can't."  He ran a hand through her auburn hair.  "But don't worry.  I'll take care of you – both of you."
