My Time to Shine
I've always felt as if I was in the shadow of my older brother. After all, he is Jesse St. James. All of Carmel knows about him. He's a walking legend. Everyone expects me to be like him, join Glee Club and take us all the way to Nationals. But as much as I want that, I don't want to do it as Jesse St. James' baby sister. I want to do it as Layla St. James.
All I ever wanted was to make a name for myself. I didn't care about my parents approval. I got good grades. I was pretty enough. I was athletic enough. But everything I did, got outshined by my perfect older brother. I score the winning goal for my soccer team when I'm five, Jesse gets a speaking role in the town's performance of Fiddler on the Roof when he's eight. Everything I've ever done, Jesse has always outshined me.
But not this time. Because I, Layla Anne St. James will be responsible for taking William McKinley High to Nationals and beating my brother's precious little legacy to bits. This is my time to shine.
